I clicked on the download link for ED (not Odyssey) on the frontier store, then ran the installer and now it's working. It shows the right version on the lower left, and news, etc when scrolling down. So I'd say the primary issue was fixed and news are now shown, but if the launcher was supposed to auto update or download and update, that part is broken.

Yesterday we released an all new Launcher for Elite Dangerous.

Unfortunately 'Live Content' for the Frontier standalone launcher was not working as intended following release, for example the "scroll down for more" section failed to scroll for you and no content was displayed there.
A fix is incoming for this issue and I'll be sure to update you here as soon as it's available.

After changing settings in the launcher, like language, the launcher does not restart properly.
