[2021] Why can’t I link Frontier account after purchasing ED+Odyssey, and that I need to, “Purchase Elite Dangerous,” after doing so already?

I bought the game on Steam, wanting to return to it after playing it for awhile on PS4 years ago. Installed it, opened the launcher, and tried to link my account. Got all the way to entering the verification code when it told my that I had to “purchase the game.” Which of course I already had or else I wouldn’t have the damn launcher. Even bought the DLC cause I wanted to see what’s changed. Anyway, I’ve already tried restarting steam, restarting my computer, any combination of those two hitherto known to man, verified game files, uninstalled and reinstalled, etc. I saw that I could purchase elite dangerous from frontiers own website, so are they screwing over steam users to encourage purchases on their own site? Idc if that’s the case, just let me know so I can get a refund, but let that be the last resort because I would like to get this thing working without having to buy it for a third time.
