[2022] Massacre smuggler missions not counting kills?

I've got a mission titled "Maccacre the Brothers of Mainani smugglers" where I have to eliminate 10 smugglers of that faction.

I'm in that system and after scanning the nav beacon I've got the mission signal source popping up. I drop in and find 6 ships all listed as being from that faction and wanted, and blast them away.

I then check my progress in the transactions window, and no progress has been made. I've done this a couple of times, logged back out and in again, and no luck.

Can someone put me out of my misery? What is the secret?
