[2021] ED & Valve Index - Can't find a conclusive tutorial

Hi guys - I've done my best going through all threads and Q&A's, but none seem to have the problem I do.

I recently decided to try playing ED with my Index, and in the past I would use Vjoy and Elite VR c*ckpit, but none of these seem to work anymore (it's been around a year since I've played).

When I launch the game in Steam VR mode, my HMD becomes my mouse - at the main menu, whatever option I physically turn my head toward gets highlighted. The controllers do nothing, my mouse and keyboard do nothing, and I've done all the classic tricks (resetting seating position, hitting F12 to reset seating position, making sure that ED is in the foreground of all other windows) and nothing works.

Is there a real tutorial out there on how to use the Index with ED? I don't mind using my mouse and keyboard with my HMD, I'd enjoy using the controllers like I used to with Vjoy/Elite c*ckpit, but understand if that's no long possible.

Am I just really bad with search, or is nobody else experiencing this issue, or anything like it? I'll try anything, as ED feels so much more immersive in VR. I apologize for any oversight/ignorance here, but I'm genuinely frustrated that I can't find anything similar to what I'm experiencing.
