TLDR; Tarkov is a much better game then I predicted. BattleState Games are hardest working indie devs.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Venting to my girlfriend (wife now) about how unrealistic first pesron shooter games handled gun play, and how one dimensional they all were. Cheap amusements that were nothing but head click cash grab games. Thought I was about to give up on video games all together. Then (2017), my girl showed me an article announcing the early access release for this new fangled game called... Escape From Tetris? No,no,no... Escape from Takov!
When I first read the article, I was a bit cynical. These developers sounded like they were way in over the head. Making ambitious claims about content they wanted to develop that sounded way too complicated. Admittedly, wasn't sure if these people were trying to pull my leg. Ammo reloading, base building, hundreds of fully modifiable guns, quest lines, open world map, and list goes on. Sounded like another game that was never gonna finished honestly.
*Fast forward a couple of years. It's now 2020. Was I wrong about Tarkov being a wash? Absolutely!
An honest observer would have to admit that the development team are possibly the hardest working indies in the industry. Just look at how much stuff they have completed. Sure, the game is far from perfect, but reflect on how far things have come from 2017. We have so many new maps. A insane amount of new guns. All of mall ninja mods any player could ever want. Tarkov is simply not the same game anymore.
With all of the complaining I've seen on Reddit recently, I'm concerned that players aren't being fair about the sate of the game posts. Sure there are hackers (every game has them), and there is a problem with desync (every game has). Why is it that some gamer's have such a tendency to complain? Why so much hate for the devs? Not just Tarkov, but in general?
Explain to me the psychology of a gamer. Are we all just that entitled? Have you ever built a video game before? Do you really think you know how much is involved? If I'm not mistaken (correct me if I am), BSG had to make ALL of the assets from scratch. That's right? Yes. Everything in the Tarkov universe. Please think about that next time you play the game. Just explore Interchange, and admire the details and props everywhere.
I'll admit I was wrong about Tarkov. Can you do the same? The game is getting better everyday. Can't wait to see what's in-store for the future. Good luck BattleState, and Happy belated Birthday!
