So as everyone else, I'd like to put in my two cents about the JS variation with the fan that got added in the recent update, especially about the direction the discussion about it has taken.

Can we stop arguing about the definition of rng and start talking about the effect the fan has on gameplay? When people call out that it makes some jumps on one wide platforms impossible, there are always people that try to counter by saying that the fan is constant and thus predictable, which leads to a semantics game of people going over the definion of rng. I've even seen some Mediatonic people get into it.

No, it's not rng. But as I said what's important it that when the game ends up with two single wide pltforms, the beams can align with the fan in just the right way that just makes you pretty much unable to make a jump you could otherwise do.

I know it was my actions that lead me to that platform and I know I can predict the fan is gonna be in that crappy position when I see it approach and at that point there is zero rng. But you can only predict so far. There is no way for you to know that by choosing that tile that in the end game, potentially minutes later, you are gonna get screwed by a bad beams/fans alignment. Again, if you went for the other one you'd have survived, but it's just not realistic to predict that.

It's that fact that needs adressing, ideally by making the fan just strong enough to kind mess with you when you jump in it's current but not so strong that it completely yeets you off the platform if you are forced to make a jump in that spot.

Yeah, I'm kinda disappoint in how Mediatonic community managers, I especially remember u/OliverAge24Artist doing this, responded to people's criticisms of this change. Instead of saying that they acknowledge it and will take it into cosideration they act like your average Reddit high IQ debator by trying to point out one flaw in what people have to say and trying to make it into a gotcha.

Overall I've seen Mediatonic people on here getting defensive about people criticising the changes and trying to defend why they are the way they are, rather than debating how the game could be improved, which I'm kinda disappointed by.

We listen to all the feedback, and we're happy to take it on board. This subreddit was particularly toxic for a couple of days after the launch of the update though. It's calmed down a bit which is awesome to see. The community team isn't really supposed to just be here as a punching bag for whatever people want to throw at us.

There's a massive difference between personally attacking us, calling us incompetent, lazy, speaking on behalf of the entire community, etc...

It's a vocal minority right now that are upset about the fan on Jump Showdown, and from our side, we really don't think it makes things more random, since it's another constant.

You can dislike it, that's completely fine. We tested it internally, and we tested it with our community of playtesters. Nobody scored it less than 3/5.

We're monitoring the response and we'll keep it in mind while thinking about our overall player base.

At the same time, we can't please everyone. We have some people saying we're catering too much "to our casual players" and some people say we're "alienating our casual players".

We try to chat more personally and speak about these things with more transparency.

Would you really rather we do the generic thing and just copy/paste:

"Thanks for your feedback, we'll pass it on to the team!"

The post in which you saw my reply about RNG - was literally a post about how they liked the fan in Jump Showdown. The thread is called:

"I actually like this change, makes you time your jumps better: as if you jump with the fan on you, you gone. :P"

You guys need a new batch of testers, are they the ones who greenlit the season 2 Hex? How are they not fired lmao.

A lot of them have been playing the game since before it released. There's a real mix of players, but a lot of them are super familiar with the game and active in the community.

Unfair to blame them because you personally don't like something.
