Hello Creative community!

We continue to see fantastic creations and are constantly amazed at what you’re able to build with the new tools that release. We’re going to start directly talking to you more often about what other tools you’d like to see and how the current set are working for you. Giving you all the things you need to continue creating!

We’re going to kick off our first Creative Chat today, and you can expect these regularly (every week or so) to discuss the ongoing development of Creative Mode. Let’s get started!

We know that starting out in Creative Mode can be a bit overwhelming, with the array of tools and objects available. If we were to work with the community to create tutorial videos, what topics would be most useful to you?

I think one thing most people don’t understand is the Grid Snap feature. My friends disco floors are always off because he doesn’t know how to put it on the right setting. That’s one you could do, i’m sure it would help beginners

Great idea. I had the same problem when I first started.

If it is okay to talk about a missing tool:

iOS and Android Bug(s) By Date: (Touch input only)

2. There is no button to mirror a wall, ramp, etc with the phone. (Since December 6, 2018)

From this list.

We're actually looking for what tutorials people would be interested in. ;)

Of course no one read the post and just floods it with requests, lol. 🙄

A tutorial with an overview of the available tools is definitely necessary, and a tutorial on the different game settings and devices available, too. Also maybe one that shows what items some of the galleries have so people can jump right in

Tool overview sounds like a great idea.

A general tips & tricks video to help guide players in both easier ways to use the tools as well as how to approach projects:

  • Building vertical platforms to spawn in pre-fabs makes sure it doesn't clip through the ground & makes it easier to select / delete.

  • Selecting a theme before starting can be important, aiming to mix both a 'location' & theme such as city location + volcanic theme helps create a richer world. As well as making some back story lore to it.

  • Trying pieces together before building, creating mood boards, finding how you want to decorate your world and building mock ups.

  • Common things to avoid such as repetitive pieces (using the same wall or prop over and over), building square shapes instead of trying irregular both horizontally and vertically, leaving vast empty spaces, etc.

  • Barrier Blocks, Music Sequencer, Objectives functionality, Starting Inventory explained with examples on creating different team formations and dynamic maps.

  • Memory management, knowing how unique pieces take up more memory.

  • What makes a map fun: creativity & originality, free flowing movement, every player gets to participate for the majority of play time.

  • Keep it simple, start on a small project and iterate on it to build it up. Starting on a big project from the very beginning is very difficult & requires far more planning.

Thank you for this!

I think one of the first videos should talk about memory. How different objects affect memory and nice tips on to reduce memory for maps like sticking to a smaller pallet instead of throwing everything you can into a map.

Obviously it is a option to use whatever you want and people are free to do so but explain how and why it affects the game in terms of frame rate and and how it can affect a gameplay.

Also maybe give some more detailed guidlines in video form for the block. Like what is the height limit you guys are looking for, can certain blocks over lap the block border (like trees, rocks and other taller protruding shapes. The base may be in the boundies but can they stick out a little)

Some gameplay tips on how to create a nice play space ( Like not over loading rooms with to many objects its hard to move, not making loot rooms of easy to obtain materials, good chest placements and some good path ways for players to traverse that are not to small but also not to huge that it feels empty.)

Just some of my thoughts and suggestions. Excited for even more communication with you guys on the future of this mode.

Excellent ideas, thank you!

For me it would be aligning things. When using square things and a 16, 8, 4 or 2 grid it's easy enough if the object doesn't go over your head and isn't visible to place it where you want. But everything is misaligned when using no grid. So yeah it would be aligning stuff for me. It's probably much easier on PC

What platform are you on?

Just a reminder we're looking for ideas for tutorials.

If we were to work with the community to create tutorial videos, what topics would be most useful to you?
