This is a bug that only occurs in the lobby. I play on PC, I noticed this bug when I went to the item shop and clicked on Cap Kick. Performing the emote works fine but afterwards, for some odd reason, the gas tank expands (the reason why it doesn't work in-game). This bug appears for everybody in your party if you perform the emote in the "Play" tab. I have provided a video demonstrating the bug.
