How can you get points in solo? It seems like it’s all team related
This event is all about bringing the Community together. So it won't be possible to earn points in Solos for the Autumn Queen's Challenge.
However, as long as you play a match before 8 PM ET on December 1st, and the Point Goal is met, you'll still receive the animated Falling Leaf Wrap. Even you don't manage to earn any points yourself.

Your assumption would be correct! The progress bar is updated a few times an hour.

Play a match in Battle Royale on any platform before 8 PM ET on Dec 1.
If the Autumn Queen's Quest is completed, then you'll be granted your animated Falling Leaf Wrap by Dec 6.
