Note: There's a TL;DR below if you're really lazy, but you should read the whole post. The TL;DR skips a ton of important information weighing in on this.

Recently, I've seen a few points arguing for the removal of Switch players from mobile lobbies. There have been grievances from both parties in the comments of numerous posts, so I'm going to attempt to summarize many of the issues and arguments here.

Arguments FOR Switch+Mobile Lobbies:

Mobiles can support 60fps, rather than the 30fps of the Switch.

Autofire (and SMG spray) is accurate, and hard to defend against.

Indicators aren't fair against Switch players, you can see where players might be.

All of these "make it even" and a fair fight, they should stay. (Not my perspective, the general perspective)

(Rebuttal of) Arguments FOR Switch+Mobile Lobbies:

Mobile players can have a nice 60fps to the non-constant 30fps of the Switch. There are only a few devices on mobile that support 60fps, being either new iPad Pros ($700+, I believe) and the newer iPhones (XR, XS, XS Max - Also hundreds of dollars. The cheapest XS comes in at around $1,000 - not sure about the XR). I'd bet money that the majority of mobile players don't have these devices. And even as these devices can run 60fps, from what I can tell, there are still drastic drops in FPS during build fights with these devices.

Autofire (and SMG spray)? Not every mobile player uses it, I certainly don't - it'd reduce response time, I tested it out in a creative server with a few friends. It's an easy complaint to make against mobile players at the moment, but if you've got turbobuild on, there's no issue. It's quite possible to spam walls against the SMG, and with the obviously limited mag it becomes less of an issue. Yes, it's accurate, but possible to defend against.

Indicators? Yes, they're useful. I won't deny it, but it only exists as a handicap BECAUSE we play on mobile. With smaller screens and potentially limited audio, it's almost necessary - especially so when playing in a public place. It's possible to turn them on for any device, although if you're not on mobile you lose the audio capabilities.

These few ideas don't exactly equate it or make these fair for a mobile user to play against Switch players.

Arguments AGAINST Switch+Mobile Lobbies:

Switch players have build capabilities far past those of mobile players.

Switch players drop frames, and it's unstable.

Switch players have the "Pro" controller, something mobiles can't use - further adding to their advantages.

These Switch advantages make it simply unfair for mobile, and lobbies should be removed. (General perspective)

(Rebuttal of) Arguments AGAINST Switch+Mobile Lobbies:

Switch players have build capabilities far past those of mobile players. There's no good rebuttal argument to this, the edits and overall build capabilities on Switch when compared to mobile are nutty unless you're playing claw. I doubt the average, casual mobile player plays on claw with the ability to compete with Switch in terms of edits and building.

Switch players drop frames, and it's unstable. As mentioned earlier, mobile players also drop a crazy amount of frames when in highly populated fights - Switch players are not alone in this.

Switch players have the "Pro" controller, something mobiles can't use - further adding to their advantages. Again, no good rebuttal here - if a mobile player attempts to use any type of controller, we're put into Xbox/PS4 servers.

Clearly, each platform has their advantages and disadvantages. It's not totally fair for either platform to be together.

Overall, I think it becomes clear that these two platforms should be on separate servers. The advantages and disadvantages widen the skill gap very much on the formerly casual mobile, but Switch players don't deserve to play Xbox or PS4 players. If you've read the whole post, thanks! Feel free to leave more ideas for/against the consoles that I'll add to the post.

TL;DR: Switch and mobile players should be put into separate lobbies, and not be together. It's not fair, for either platform, in a few aspects of the game.

Note #2: Please, stop the negativity between mobile and Switch users. It's unnecessarily toxic, we don't need it between our two communities. We can coexist in peace.

Note #3: This has been posted to r/FortniteMobile, and will be posted to r/FortniteSwitch when I can post again. I'd appreciate all feedback, and I hope anyone reading this has a wonderful day! Hopefully, we can get a response from the Fortnite devs on the current issues of cross-play between mobile and Switch.

Honest question for those who frequent this forum daily:

I remember an Epic employee frequenting this sub on a very regular basis yet, when they merged lobbies I haven’t seen a single comment from them.

Has this employee made any comments that I have not seen?

/u/FreightTrainUSA is here every day. I mostly post on patch days when I'm tracking issues, but I lurk on my non-epic associated account.

Well, what are your thoughts on this issue?

Similar to what I said when we announced it. I generally think mobile players are a lot better than most people think they are (including mobile players themselves). We're watching it and if we see the quality of the matches degrading we'll make changes, but in the meantime we feel this is at least a change worth trying that could result in a better experience for both communities. :)
