Having now finished it, I want to express my satisfaction with the idea and execution of the Falling Star Quest License (FSQL). I was expecting a grindy collection of the kind we have seen many times before culminating in just another exotic spear with the skin. What I instead got was a very pleasant surprise.
So we, unexpectedly to me, got both an ascended glove and weapon, and the requirements for the collection were in fact extremely cheap and reasonable - which they should be, because again we paid 1000 for the privilege. If this ease and convenience is what comes of paying AA upfront for collections, I'm sold on the concept.
Before we go further I want to point out that the cost of the license (1000) is the same as one ascended weapon (600) and one ascended armor piece (400). So the cost of the license is "fair" if you consider them relative to the other offerings. (Which however you feel about the gear prices, they do allow instant no-BS access to ascended equipment).
So that aside, what are we actually getting on top of it? A +5 power +9 agony infusion that can be used to turn on the skin's second form, and...for me, the intangible but very great benefit of actually having a weapon with a story, a background, an origin to how my character acquired it. This when the "lore" of so much equipment in this game is "I got it from the gem store/trading post/black lion gambling".
Now to be clear, the Fallen Star quest is no masterpiece of writing, but it's enough. It's enough to give the weapon an identity, a place in the lore, and to make it meaningful to our character and memorable to us as the player.
That's all. I just wanted to say I think this idea worked out well and I look forward to similar offerings in the Wizard's Vault in the future.
