[2020] Getting Back into the Game After the Break

I've been away from GW2 for about 8 months now. I played Heart of Thorns for a bit, then the game just seemed to get stale. WvW even seemed to be slightly dead. I've played a fair amount of Guild Wars 2, and just wanted to see if any players who also took a break after Heart of Thorns came out have gotten back into the game. I know the new expansion came out so I just wanted to ask, how much more does this really add to the game? Are the new specializations even meta? If anyone has any information on what there is to do if you come back it would be greatly appreciated. :D Thank you everyone in advanced.
