On This Day, April 17th, in 1942, French General Henri Giraud escaped the ‘inescapable’ Königstein Castle where he had been kept as a prisoner of war for the last 2 years.
He descended 150 feet (~46m) of wall and cliff face using a handmade rope, then jumped on a passing train!
