Currently able to download and install HLL on Linux using proton. The only issue I run into is EAC not loading thus not allowing me to play. With steam deck and steam OS out now EAC has enabled linux support. So it’s on the devs at this point from what I understand. Are there plans to enable Linux support in the near future? Has anyone had luck running HLL on Linux?

To add to this, from what I’ve read it’s fairly easy to implement. https://boilingsteam.com/enabling-eac-support-on-linux-now-easier/

Its sadly not that easy, its only easy with EOS. The game runs on EAC and needs a engine upgrade to function well. This will take time.

For now I suggest just to simply send in a request to Team17 Support so they can track the number of requests ;).

Hi! Would you mind explaining why is difficult? Because on the Steam website (https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/steamdeck/proton) it looks like the process for the non-eos version is quite simple. You can't imagine how much I'd like to play HLL on Linux, it's the only game that holds me back on Windows today.

Ah, even the non EOS one is not that simple, especially with a older engine version or EAC. So for now reporting/requesting is key.

Thank you for acknowledging both that there is more than enabling a config option and not shutting down the idea of supporting Linux through Proton.

I love the game and would gladly buy it again and its DLCs for Linux support.

You and me both! Id also looove to see EAC and Linux/Proton support too. So please keep sending in those tickets ;).

There has been an update regarding ease of implementation :). See here.

It should require only inclusion of a library file in the game's directory and checking "enable Linux support" in the EAC partner site console.

Its not like this. Not even close. This is EOS and not EAC.

I don't understand what you're saying.

Are you saying that my link only describes how to enable support for games that use EOS? That would be incorrect. This method works without any involvement from EOS as of an update in January. From my link:

[Supporting] EAC games is now a simple process, and doesn't require updating game binaries, SDK versions, or integration of EOS.

You should literally be able to include the library file and basically be good to go.

Nope, didnt work ;). Also the "button" doesnt exist on older non EOS versions... slight oversight. And yes, we are aware of this all.

Hmm... I know Fall Guys had an issue where Proton didn't properly integrate shared resources, and thus, they weren't able to implement support until fairly recently. It could be a Proton bug. Regardless, I'm grateful that you guys have looked into it.

I've read that it's been a common problem where the library file is mistakenly placed in a directory where EAC doesn't look for it. Might be worth double checking, just to ensure that this isn't the case.

And the setting doesn't exist on the partner site? I'm surprised that I haven't heard of this issue before. This was checked after the update late in January? If so that really sucks, and I wonder how that might get resolved.

Time will tell ;).

Hopefully not too much time, Linux support would be amazing! Thanks for considering it even if it's not super easy atm

100%! Linux and Proton would be amazing!

Can't wait for this to happen. I even bought the game, knowing it won't work on my rig. So, go go go

For now, Geforece NOW can be a partial solution.

Not really and you know ;)

I hope something happen in the near future.

Nothing we can do atm then wait for a engine upgrade. This takes months of retesting and rechecking... so its not anytime close.

I submitted mine a couple days ago. This is the only game is hurting my linux setup, I'm so happy I only run manjaro and nothing else and I can play most of my beloved games. HLL is missing tho. Such an amazing game!

Thanks for the transparency!

Also, you -could- try to play HLL through GeforceNOW... I think some internet browsers are allowed and accepted on Linux...

Is it still the same situation? Did Steam literally just lie in that article?

No lies, just a later engine version was their benchmark. They never looked into other or custom engine versions.
