TECHNICAL FAQ
What are the minimum and recommended PC spec requirements?

It is RECOMMENDED that your PC has at least:

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit versions)
Processor: Intel i7-9700
Memory: 32 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 3060ti
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 80 GB available space

The MINIMUM specs are:

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit versions)
Processor: Intel i5 8400
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 80 GB available space

Should I choose DirectX 11 or DirectX 12?

Try and test both options. DirectX 11 provides the fastest and most stable game experience, and is our default setting. Enable DirectX 12 if you have an RTX graphics card and want to play with RTX Global Illumination or DLSS 3. NVIDIA DLSS 2 and FSR acceleration technologies are enabled in both settings.

How can I optimize my Graphics Settings? How can I increase my frame rate?

Icarus can be a graphically demanding game and customizing your PC’s settings can improve its responsiveness.

Every graphics card and PC configuration is different, but here are some general suggestions when trying to optimize your performance:
  • Choose the DirectX 11 setting when you start Icarus
  • Install Icarus on an SSD if possible
  • Update to the latest graphics card drivers. Both NVIDIA and AMD have updated dedicated drivers for Icarus
  • Experiment with your Display Settings to find a setting that works best for your PC, when in-game on the planet. Try Medium and High Overall Quality settings.
  • Enable DLSS Super Resolution (or FSR if you have a non-nvidia graphics card), and set to “Performance”
  • If you have a 4000 series nvidia card, you can enable DLSS Frame Generation, you’ll need to be running the game in DirectX 12 mode first
  • Lower the game’s resolution, each “step” doubles the amount of rendering required
  • Lower the Shadows setting and Max Shadow Cascades. Disable Contact Shadows and enable Use Simple Building Shadows for the best FPS
  • Reduce Textures setting to use less of your graphic card’s RAM. Higher values increase texture quality but use more graphics card RAM
  • Reduce your Texture Streaming Pool Size to 2000, then increase steadily until most (but not all) of your graphic card’s RAM is in use by the game. Higher values reduce loading time of new textures. If you see textures not look right (blocky or low resolution) when loading, try increasing the value. If you get crashes (notably with the code 0xffffffffffff) or textures taking too long to load, try decreasing the value
  • Increasing the Field of View (eg, to 100) may improve performance, but watch how it affects the game's perspective
  • When playing multiplayer, ideally use a dedicated server, otherwise ensure the host is the player with the best CPU
  • Play in Fullscreen Mode
ONLINE AND MULTIPLAYER
How can I play online multiplayer?

You can either play on a Dedicated Server or a Peer-to-Peer Sever, where the game is hosted by one the players. Select “Join” from the game menu to browse and join games.

How do Peer-to-Peer Servers work?

You can play Icarus with up to 7 other people from your Steam Friends List. One player can “Host” a session and then their Friends can “Join a Prospect” to browse and join sessions that their Friends are Hosting.

How do Icarus’ dedicated servers work?

You can rent dedicated servers from several providers, or host your own. Several third-party server hosts are linked at the bottom of the Dedicated Servers screen.

Instructions to host your own are here: https://github.com/RocketWerkz/IcarusDedicatedServer/wiki
Can I play without an Internet connection?

Yes. Your game files, including your character and saved games, are stored locally on your PC rather than an online server.

GAME OPTIONS
Is Icarus updated regularly?

See the latest patch notes here:https://steamcommunity.com/app/1149460/announcements/
We have updated Icarus every week since launch, and every few months we do larger feature-based updates. All these updates are free as part of the base game.

Can I change key bindings?

Yes, in the Controls Settings Menu.

Can I skip the introduction video?

A: Yes. The game is loading while the video plays. Depending on your PC it could take a few seconds or up to a minute before you can skip it. Smashing buttons won’t make it load faster. In the Gameplay Settings Menu is an option that will skip the video, but still require loading time.

Do you support mods?

We don't provide official mod support for Icarus. Since Icarus is updated weekly, this can often break mods and require them to be frequently updated. There are independent third-party modding communities but they are not run by RocketWerkz.

Do you have controller support?

Limited support for Xbox, PlayStation or Switch controllers is available in the Controls Setting menu. However, not all game features or menus have controller support and we recommend Keyboard and Mouse.

What languages do you support?

Icarus is available in English, German, French, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. However, Prospector Sol’s voice acting is only in English.

Icarus is updated regularly and sometimes there may be English words mixed in with your language while our translators catch up. We don’t want to delay you having the latest content, but we are committed to translating into your language.

There are several Icarus communities around the world. These are unofficial and not run by RocketWerkz.

Can I play Icarus on GeForce Now?

You can also play Icarus on GeForce NOW, NVIDIA’s cloud gaming service, at 1080p and 60 FPS from any compatible device. Learn more at http://geforcenow.com. Please note you cannot use Photo Mode to save photos as GeForce Now does not access your local harddrive.

GAMEPLAY
Can I leave a session and come back later?

If you keep your character on the planet, you can leave the game and come back later. You can do this by hitting Escape and returning to the Character Select screen. You will be able to join the session again later. If you leave via your dropship this concludes your Prospect and you will not be able to return.

What can I take to orbit?

Workshop Items can be brought to and from the surface each time you drop, these loadouts are tied to the active prospect/session you’re playing. If you wish to use these for a different session or prospect, you’ll need to take them back up with you into orbit before launching your new session. While your character can play multiple sessions simultaneously, orbital workshop items are limited to one session at a time.

You can also find exotic materials on the surface, used to purchase advanced Workshop equipment, you can take these to orbit by putting them in specialized exotic pods that can be requested to come to the surface during a game session, which will launch them into space for you.

What is Open World mode?

Open World is a permanent session with no time limit where you have access to the full map, can build a massive base and can play full missions or SMPL3 quests as well. This is the premier mode and most played by our community, with many players having multiple Open World saves.

What are Missions?

Missions are session-based instances of the same missions from Open World, but with a time limit, no existing base, and varying difficulty. These also unlock subsequent missions when completed.

What are Outposts?

Outposts are permanent 1km x 1km maps with no time limit, safe animals, light weather and limited dangers - ideal for building and permanent. Resources such as trees and ores will regenerate when you rejoin your Outpost, so you have ample supplies.
