[2022] Experience gains, player level and zone level

I feel like i am constantly underleveled in this game.

I have 3 characters i played in higher monoliths and all feel like they dont progress at all experience wise.

My highest level character is lvl86 and is clearing empowered monoliths, which have zone level 100. Experience gain is slow still and it feels like it would take ages to go into mid 90s. On this character i also did lots of arenas as thats said to have best xp gains.

My second and third character are doing lvl90 monoliths and they are lvl81 and lvl78. The lower lvl char just reached 90 monos and the higher one is close to reaching empowered monos.

I would expect my second char to reach empowered monos (zone lvl100) on lvl82, which is kinda stupid imo.

Xp gains are so slow compared to itemization, anyone else had a similar experience?

Here is the missing piece of information that will be the "ohhhh" moment.

XP gains are capped at +5 levels. A level 86 character in a level 100 zone gains XP as though it was a level 91 zone.

For fastest leveling, pick the highest level zone that you can clear quickly up to 5 levels above your character level.

Quest list on the left, top one should be a main quest, click on it. Your map will focus on the next main quest. Go to the nearest waypoint to that and follow the main quest arrow on your minimap.

Ty man.. I didn't know the top story line quest would be the most recent higher level one. I think I went around backwards too much to complete the passive and idol quests and got lost to where I should be at

I'm not sure if it's the highest level one but the top quest in the list should be a main quest.
