Last update given by sarno was that online/offline will be separate and players will be allowed to "...install and use mods as they wish...". I understand that it's not a focus for EHG until core game is finished. Just wanted a understanding of where devs are at modding wise!

The big distinction here is that we don't have a fully offline mode yet. So, nothing has changed on this front yet. When we do have a proper fully offline mode, we will likely be very hands off with it. Our major concern with game integrity comes with online mode.

Edit: I just read that statement and some things have changed. The online and offline modes are going to be part of a single client now. We will have to reevaluate how we are going to handle people making mods.

Oh I see! Thank you for the update. I hope modding is implementable in some fashion or another. I don't know what future plans are from a longevity viewpoint (from what I understand not all game developers want their game to have long term longevity since it might impact the next game they develop). Personally, I think modding would be great if implemented since it would allow indirect patches/bug fixes from the community, along with quality of life mods (again idk how this would look since LE multiplayer/single player is on a single client ).

We currently have no plans to help or hinder offline mods.

Will any form of multiplayer be limited to the official servers? So mods would only work offline single player like Diablo 2 Resurrected, or would there be any way to play mods with friends? Such as LAN, TCP I/P, custom servers?

Much appreciated.

We have no plan to add LAN or TCP/IP support or release our server code. Currently the only way to play online will be with the official servers.

It's possible that this could change in the future but very unlikely to be any time soon.

Has the stance on this changed?

I can't make any statements which provide exact guidelines on what is and isn't ok as things are still evolving. Currently, we don't plan to help or hinder mods exclusively created for and used in offline mode. In online mode, anything that depends on or reacts to the current game state is strictly forbidden.

So for example, using num lock to auto cast a skill is ok. Nothing was done to alter the game client, the OS doesn't have any idea what is going on in the game and is just spamming a button over and over as though you glued the key down.

As a counter example, something which waited until your health dropped below 10% and then auto-logged you out would not be ok as that depends on and reacts to the state of the game.

I like to think of it like if I could get a handful of materials from a summer camp arts and crafts hut to make this happen on my keyboard, then it's probably ok.

This is far from an exhaustive explanation and it can change at any point. We try to be reasonable with things like this and judge each situation in its entirety before taking any sort of action. If you have a specific thing you would like to do but aren't sure if it's ok or not, please contact support directly with details.
