Hey all, we've activated some of our Challenges features on PBE for testing in all matchmade queues which means we'll also be enabling Challenges on PBE. Challenges is in its beta state. As we polish it up we're looking for issues and feedback to address before we release early in 2022.

Specifically, rolling out the following:

  • Challenges page under profile.
  • New Challenges identity and customization
  • End of Game Progression screens
  • New Ranked identity
  • New lobby look and feel

We're looking for feedback around:

  • Overall experience
  • Challenges content and how it meets your needs
  • Bugs

If you want a refresher on these and other changes we're working on, head to our most recent blog: https://www.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/news/game-updates/challenges-coming-to-pbe/

To test certain challenges more effectively, we're enabling the Ranked Flex 5v5 queue in place of Normal Draft.

What happens if you already have all the Champions unlocked before the Challenges get live ?

You will complete these challenges retroactively.

This just feels like people who devoted time to eternals were robbed. Since they were apparently discontinued and we didn't even get Series 2... At least refund us and integrate Champion-specific challenges there please? It feels really bad to separate two very similar and complimentary services. Thanks for hearing me.

Eternals will be integrated into Challenges before Live launch. Also, there will be continued support and iteration for Eternals in the future.

I just want to say that this feature is welcomed but damn it looks not good. It feels super out of place and a lot like if it was out of a mobile game.

It's so far away from what you teased in 2020 (12:55) I understand it was a bit too much but at least we could feel the personality of a player.

Having 3 boring dot under my username is not what I'm looking for in "showing off" my lol profile.

Howdy, lead designer for Challenges here. We've gotten this feedback a few times, so I wanted to take a beat to discuss how we got from what you saw in the video to where we are today.

The concept pieces we showed were meant to illustrate long-term potential of the system. When we have artists do work like this, we tell them to go Blue Sky, which means mostly ignore constraints and show us the coolest possible thing you can think of.

Those things are almost never what ends up actually shipping.

In both of the displayed concepts, there was frankly an obscene amount of work required to actually bring them to life on multiple fronts (design/art/engineering). This would have delayed the project by an additional year or more, and as we worked through the logistics we came to the conclusion that players would be better served by an evolution of our current banner system.

That is not to say we can't improve things further or deliver super hype moments within player identity. I am personally very excited about some of the stuff we're cooking internally. Looking forward to sharing more of that in the coming months.

Until that time, thanks so much for your feedback and keep it coming. We need it to push forward and move in the right direction.

Cheers

Will there be other rewards than titles, as per say, getting 1000 icons, rewarding a special icon, and something alike with the other collector/tressure challenges?

On launch, we're looking for just titles and tokens as the reward types, though there are plans for additional reward types in the future.

Hey, IDK where to drop this feedback but would it be possible to incrise the size for icons and runes in the new loading screen, I love how the new load screen looks now but those few a bit to small and compresed at the moment Again sorry idk where else to drop this feedback

This is the perfect place to drop that feedback. We've got it captured -- I think they're already trying to improve this. Thanks for raising it :)

Is the response/feedback to ranked borders and icons being addressed too?

Also wanted to say I love the challenges from what we have seen so far, they remind me of seals in Destiny 2 which is one of my favourite things to collect and work towards.

We're capturing all ranked borders and feedback as well. We want the systems to work well together, not just independently.

Role selection when making a game is a lot harder now. The buttons are very small and harder to click. And the shift from a radial selection menu to a flat one with the roles all in a row makes it harder to quickly and easily select your roles. It's not a huge deal, but it's a pretty noticeable drop in QoL, which can be frustrating.

Overall I like most of the other changes though. I love having ranked borders for our icons that don't cover up my beautiful champie neeko icon.

Thank you for the feedback. We're exploring alternative options for role select.

Quick question regarding Challenges. With all this work behind the scenes relative to punishing game ruining behaviour, how will "I mute all and play for Challenges" settle in this category?

/u/CodeofBear

We're creating "fail cases" for any negative behavior that arises due to Challenges and working with the Behavioral Systems team to make sure they're accounted for. Additionally, all Challenges have undergone a risk review and have all had mitigation steps applied to limit or prevent this type of behavior.

We test for abuse cases daily and will be monitoring them very closely in PBE and on launch.

I'm not sure how to get points for some things. An example is Sage, the very first challenge in the list. It says you get points in it by... earning points in it. If there was a 'sage' category it would make sense, but there isn't.

Sage is a capstone challenge and levels up by completing other challenges underneath the capstone.
