I think it would be helpful for us to share a compensation policy to help frame expectations. We likely will not offer compensation for every maintenance or downtime. But I will work with the team to get a posted policy for the community.

Honestly, I think there was some issue specific to that server that wasn’t affecting other servers and they are working to solve it.
They had an Auction House restart to take care of an issue we were starting to see there.

Are you very new to playing? I would say that you should only grind mobs to complete your Tome entries, as they offer very little rewards outside of missions.
What other tips do folks have?

I think you should consider waiting for resolution and information, a lot of the problems you are describing might not exist.
I have provided the request to the team that we compensate for the downtime, but right now they are focused on resolving the issue and getting folks playing again.

The team is continuing their maintenance work on Galatur, it should take at least 60 minutes of additional downtime. Again, I understand this unplanned downtime is very frustrating during the Head Start phase of launch. I apologize for this inconvenience.

I play most instruments. Guitar, piano, banjo, I even have a steel tongue drum. I have a big instrument collection. I save them from flea markets and dirt malls and restore them. I have a great antique accordion.
