Hi Kimedis,

It's not technically a mistake, because it is the base amount of Idols the dungeon with the idol bonus awards without any of the additional idol buffs on offer, but I'll chat with Wilson about what we can do on the rewards display.

Also, I am just as unsatisfied with the dungeon changes as the other people here.

I'll chat with the team about the possible slowdowns of the game/server. Did you notice a certain point when it started occurring, like a formation change? Or it just happened?

You can still complete the season which is level 25, and likely complete level 40 without too much effort, but as noted on stream on Tuesday, we'll be looking at changing the point distribution a little.

Hey and Happy Thursday!

Two questions for today.

First, at the current rate of acquisition(and I say this as someone who buys every season pass for context) and assuming the stars align and we get extraordinary chest luck, we’re looking at getting our first level 15 rune in about 3 years from now. Is this intended?

Second, is this dungeon season a subtle warning? A “be carful what you wish for” type scenario. It feels we’re being punished on one hand and taunted on the other by the higher end rewards that are only really obtainable if you put the kind of time and effort of a full-time job would require. Historically I have bought the dungeon passes for some extra perks, and to support CNE, this season it basically became a pay to win feeling of HAVING to buy it due to the dungeon point buff.

Cheers,

A disappointed player

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the new achieves also feel this way. People asked for more, and instead of ones that require clever play, or highlight particularly difficult milestones, instead it feel like a "screw you here is a massive time sink that you have to do during season 5, that directly conflicts with dungeon progress".

Hi HexxarTek,

  • Runes are intended to be a long term investment system. That said, over the year they've been out, we've increased the way to get them from just the weekly chest purchases to being included as season rewards and starting soon the level 7 random rune reward from Tier 7 events, so there may be more changes as the game continues.

  • Level 25 is still the intended season completion mark, and any rewards past that are bonuses. As said on stream on Tuesday, when we make the point change, we'll probably remove the runes from the rewards past level 40, so players don't feel like they're missing out on not going for the most efficient point dungeon resets.

I don't ask questions much so forgive me if this has been talked about before, but are there any plans to recall crusaders if needed or making their mission actions independent of the formation? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

There have been a few requests to be able to cancel/pay to complete a mission, and I'll add your vote to that.

The whole point of missions is to occupy your unneeded Crusaders though, so aside from most of the event objectives that have the various Crusaders locked in, we don't plan on making the Crusaders sent on missions available to use in the formation.

Thank you for the code.

I have to say that with the start of this new season, I’m getting extremely frustrated with the game. Here are some of the main reasons why.

First, I feel scammed by the new pass. The nerf on the awards made me hesitate in buying the pass, but my experience on the previous one made me decide to take the plunge. I was very angry to discover after the fact that you dramatically nerfed my earnings for each run. I’m going farther than before to only earn somewhere from 30 to 60% of the points. Going farther also means that I probably won’t have time to do my fifteen runs.

Which gets me to my second reason. With the average of around 16 hours a day, seven days a week allowed by working from home (which will finish soon), I could barely do the challenges and my fifteen runs last season. And there’s the new timed event objectives to do too. It’s absurd and it’s getting worse this season.

Thirdly, doing dungeons for points completely stalls my progression. I only get a few percent of what I would get with a free run, events without the timed events bonus.

Fourthly: difficulty. I’ve unlocked level 2 on some objectives. I would expect that, at the same DPS, I would get at least the same number of points for less areas. Yet I’m losing another one third to one sixth of my meager earnings.

I’m aware that I’m not what's considered a whale, but I did put more money on your game than any other in the last ten years, including some triple-As, with one exception. I’ve seen from repeated complaints in the different forums that you don’t really care for moderate spenders like me.

I was already getting slowly disheartened and frustrated by the game. Last week might have been the first nail in the coffin. Time will tell.

EDIT: forgot something important. I wish a nice thanksgiving to you and your team!

Hi Drugan77,

You're welcome for the code.

The season 5 rewards up to level 25 are actually quite similar to rewards from season 4, with just a consolidation of the buffs so there was room for more item drops, less rubies as players say they have too many rubies and taskmasters instead of skins to save some art time.

Also, last season, the paid pass rewards stopped at level 25 and this season they go all the way to level 100, along with free rewards track.

We're discussing what changes to make to the point drops from the dungeon runs, but we did also add the dungeon points missions with this season.

Thank you for the feedback about the time requirements and the progression. I'll discuss it with the team.

Thanks for the code, by and large happy with the new season, I don't mind that I will not get to the end of the reward list, it's good to have rewards beyond where most, if not all, people can get and much better than last season where many of us were finished with some time to spare.

The only real gripe is that the rewards in a run scale in a linear fashion, which means the best policy is sprint, reset, sprint ... I would much prefer the rewards to scale so that those that wanted to go long got rewarded for it. It wouldn't necessarily even lead to an increase in rewards as it is still slower to go past the sprint cut off.

You're welcome for the code and the new season.

Yeah, I don't expect many players, if any, to reach level 100. I just wanted to see where the point accumulation would get people.

We're looking at changing the points drops a little so it's not constant sprinting.

Yes, it was something we wanted to add. Achievements tied to the difficulties was requested by players after the introduction of the difficulties last season.

Yes, it was a mistake to not delay the season so that the achievements would launch at the same time, relying just on the Coming Soon note in the change log, and we'll try not to repeat that in the future.

As for the update, can't you guys just consider not removing anything, but tweaking the scaling pre lvl 40? Like, that's what most people want to aim for anyway. And if they wanna get past that THEN they gotta put some real work/effort.

I honestly believe that having more than 40 lvls is really good, since it encourages people to do things better, but most people should be able to attain lvl 40 within 4 months at the very least.

You're welcome for the code.

We'll see what makes the most sense for where we land on the points redistribution, as to whether we keep runes for rewards past level 40. the materials up to level 100 are staying whichever direction we go though.

Just thought I would give some slight feedback on the new season of dungeons:

On the positive side, I am extremely happy that traveling the same distance on a higher difficulty is always better than a lower one. It felt really weird to me to do sprint runs to area 5kish on lvl 1, and then do idol runs to 12500 on lvl 3. Now I know that once I have unlocked a difficulty, I don't have to lower it when I sprint to use up my runs for the week during sprints. I'm also super thankful for the spreadsheet showing what area gives X rewards. No guessing/estimations needed.

On the negative side, the restructuring of point values feels very demotivating: point values have been absolutely gutted. I recognize that adding missions for points acts as a counter balance for lower point rewards, but I already felt de-incentivized to do long point runs when an idol run maxes out hours earlier, but now that rewards increase linearly, I never see myself going past 10k to unlock the next difficulty.

Finally, a big thank you for the code!

Yeah, part of the point restructure was to make it flow better on the higher difficulties versus difficulty one.

We're looking at changing the linear drops on the higher difficulties soon.

You're welcome for the code.

Hi Erika,

Despite the outcry it has sometimes created, I’ve never been that upset about nerfing crusaders, especially when they were OP.
However, I’m sad to say I’ve lost nearly all motivation to play the game with the regression to linear scaling in the dungeons. It is a regression as I think it breaks the fundamental incentive to play the game (at least once you have done the objectives). I could develop a long argument about this but will spare everyone the wall of text here. In short, if there is no incentive for doing deep runs, why bother to keep upgrading your crusaders, seeking new gears, runes, etc….and the points/coins that allow you
to access them.
The worst is that I don’t see how it makes sense for anyone, yourselves included. I’ve heard that it is to re-balance the game in favor of new/mid-range players, but it does not achieve that at all. It’s quite possible to have exponential scaling where newbies and mid-range players earn as much as before, or even more. Instead it just
punishes high end players. Moreover, I would argue that it hurts others too,
albeit in a way that may be less apparent. As a newbie/mid-range, seeing all
these rewards I could not get without significantly increasing my DPS so that I
could do deeper runs was the motivation that drove me forward. I'm not actually sure that right now I belong in the high end camp, and I'm fine if some rewards are still now out of my reach, but it's not fine if spamming sprints run over and over, starting again every hour and half or so, rewards you more than doing deep runs. What is certain is that it has made me give up my intent of buying the pass.
There are a lot of positive things too in the changes from last season (seeing the reward structure in-game, new difficulty, increase in cap, etc.), but I’m afraid this negative one trumps them.
Anyway, before I set the curtain on this game, I would like to ask if this is something that will be reconsidered, if not for this season, at least for the next one.

Hi DrStrangelove142,

Thank you for sharing your feelings on the changes for season 5.

That's an interesting request, but it's probably something we won't add.

Just to add the voice of another type of player to the mix. I'm not super high end, but I do okay for myself. I usually only try to get fun skins like CrocOdile, Space Ork, and so on into the game or cute taskmasters. That's what I enjoy, just a fun variety of stuff to Numbers Go Up as I idle through the idle game.

That being said even I'm crushed by the dungeons having such a dramatic weight on sprinting compared to deep runs. Having the opposite of incentive to push further and get a little more for each run is so very disheartening.

It doesn't matter now if I get just a little further each time, if I improve my damage, run more buffs, upgrade my gear, anything at all and at best the goal in front of me is the same as the points as behind me.

I know everyone else already said we want to see better points for deeper runs. They have all the math and some are forcing themselves to endlessly sprint and push closer to one hundred. I'm not them. The dungeon the way it is now annoys them and depresses me. I am confident you will be raising the points for going further, but please know it isn't just to let people sleep. It is also to keep motivating to push and adapt. To get more levels, try new things, get better gear, make those Numbers Go Up. The dungeon isn't that right now. Those guys can have the math. I just want fun.

And CrocOdile.

And a Space Ork.

Just saying. That's my opinion anyway. Hope it helps.

It is a helpful opinion, thank you for sharing.

And speaking of achievements, how about a talent or crusader upgrade that keys off the number of completed achievements? (e.g. +X% DPS for every five achievements completed, multiplicative.)

You'd have to do 4 sets of 10 runs to complete all the new dungeon achievements, as the achievements are using new stats, given all 3 difficulties last season were using the same highest area reached stat.

I'll note down the vote for a crusaders or talent that takes into account the number completed achievements on the item on our suggestion list and we'll see what happens.

A question not about the dungeon scaling, since the feeling of the playerbase seems to have been well represented both here and on the stream and I know you and the team are looking at it (though I will throw in my vote for don't remove the runes, redistribute them - I thought having them every 3 or 5 levels after 40 rather than every 10 would be ok, still a stretch but much more achievable).

Anyway, actual question: We know that recipes for events are released 2 weeks after the end of the event, would it be possible for the recruit and gear missions for event saders to match that timing? I mean if the recipes for the gear for those saders are now 'in the pool' it seems a little odd that the saders themselves are not.

Hope you and the team have a great Canadian Thanksgiving and thanks for being willing to consider changes, rather than 'my way or the highway' which I've seen from dev teams before.

Given some of the feedback below, we won't remove them, but we'll likely move the runes to lower levels, and after a certain level it will just be crafting material all the way to level 100.

It would be great if the mission additions matched the recipes. It's just been a lower priority to get it set up over other content and bug fixes.

I will pass the Thanksgiving wishes along to the rest of the team. :)

I just wanted to chime in as well, please don't remove the runes past level 40. I've also been sprinting non-stop to try and get the rewards. It's unfortunate that so many players have been complaining about these stretch goals that you put in(and a lot of players have been asking for since season 1), that they are now making you second guess your decision. I'm one of the end game players that thinks they can actually achieve 100, and I'm willing to sacrifice my entire dungeon season running strictly for points and gaining 0 idols to try and accomplish it.

Bipp makes a good point about not removing the runes, so we'll likely just move them earlier down the track and keep it materials-only past a certain level.

I think you could totally make level 100 too, especially with the points missions.

The more I've thought about it after you mentioned it on the stream, removing the runes from the reward track should be a non-starter, as all of your paid pass players have already paid for the chance to get them. So removing them is scammy, and possibly illegal in many countries (bait and switch in online purchasing of virtual goods). I would strongly encourage you to drop this path of exploration. There is only downside.

That said, you have plenty of tuning knobs available to you to address the concern than players feel those rewards are out of reach.

One is increasing point rewards, which moves players along the reward path quicker (and only last for this single season, so is not a permanent condition).

Or, moving the more desirable parts of the post 50 reward track (e.g. Rune stacks) to the 40-50 range and having post 50 be only mats. Either of these addresses the problem, without creating a new one of very unhappy paying customers.

Cheers!

EDIT: Personally, I've been sprinting like a madman this week, because I want to go for 100, whether you move where the late rune stack are on the reward track or not. But if you just removed the runes, I'd also want my time back since removing the rune rewards I've been pushing for with my season 5 strategy completely pulls the rug out and destroys the value of the money I spent, and the time I spent on point runs, I could have been dong idol runs with my time.

Yup, we'll drop the removing entirely of the runes, and focus on our other dials to tweak.

Cheers!

Plenty has been said about not removing rune rewards. I'm going to take a slightly different approach. The rune rewards for this season are somehow lagging behind the last season despite the expanded reward track, and removing those would further lag it behind. However, if the rune rewards earlier in the track were to be increased, particularly on the pass, then I think it would be considered a reasonable trade-off.

I would also recommend not locking runes behind levels you don't want players to reach in the future. Materials are fine because they're relatively easily acquired through chests at least, but runes are a very rare commodity comparatively and putting them in there is clearly baiting people to go for them.

Thank you for the input. Since the pass has 100 levels of rewards this season, increasing the runes would have meant increasing the price of the pass.

The discussion is still ongoing, but we won't be removing the runes, just moving them down away from level 100.

Not a single one. Players have payed for the pass and have strategised heavily on reaching those seemingly unattainable prizes. Maybe just lower those rewards to a more reasonable level, still past lvl 40, of course, as well as revising the point scaling to give more option for how we play, rather than sprint, reset, repeat.

First off Matt is pretty fun. It is nice to see the gold meta evolve in a new direction and it has been a while since we've seen this much of a shakeup. He won't always be useful (so very very gold hungry) and that is okay. We've also largely been freed from the golden gear is king forms which is helpful.

How the base versus pass rune rewards are a bit more balanced this season than previous is a positive direction. Pass holders getting 5.5-6x the runes as non pass holders in the past two seasons was a bit much. This season (up to 40) it is a more reasonable 2.5x.

Thanks for managing to fit the black hole TM in. I requested it so long ago I had thought them a lost cause.

The willingness to add stretch point goals and also your desire to make this season a bit harder while also being receptive to feedback on the sprint "requirements" is appreciated. A point that gets kind of lost is that most aren't looking for deep runs be significantly more efficient than a sprint but just that a 9h+ run only awarding double what a 90m run gives isn't great.

A lot of the negative sentiments expressed on the last stream seemed to stem from too many shifts at once that felt like regression. Back to sprint meta, points and coins are heavily reduced, levels need more points (largely offset by the longer season), the very large increase in DPS requirements on the highest difficulty, having to reunlock everything (even if s4 was a bug), and the arguably biggest rewards for the season being completely out of reach for many were all a bit of a left turn from the way seasons have been getting progressively easier. Not that a bit of a redirect was entirely unwarranted but it is hard to not look at all the changes and not feel a bit bad after how the last season performed. I'm sure much of this is frustrating because a lot of the changes were driven by player request.

As for the rune distribution versus last season I do feel the need to make a few points. You seem to be misremembering how many runes were on the pass last season. Contrary to an earlier post there were actually a very large number of post level 25 runes on the pass. In fact half of all the runes available during the season were on the pass from levels 26-30 with 40 r7 and 6 r8. With this large chunk of runes not being present in season 5 the pass from level 1-40 has lost over 2k runes. This little chart should be accurate to show the difference https://i.imgur.com/mWMSbq4.png While some player's annoyance at this is understandable it has contributed to shrinking the rune disparity between the pass and non pass (which was praised earlier) so I am of a mixed opinion here. Another point here that is shown in the chart is that complete removal of the post 40 runes this season, rather than redistributing at least part of them, puts this season at a rune disadvantage to the last.

Lastly if you decide to dip your toe into rune rewards on the stretch goal levels again next season may I suggest runic chests? Tossing out 7-13 chests every so often for example (roughly equivalent to a single r6-r8) would cause much less FOMO versus the largest hoard of fire runes in the season while still breaking up the material monotony which I know was a popular request for the xzlayed class players.

Anyway no pitchfork from me this season, thanks again for the void, and I'm looking forward to T7.

EDIT: forgotten points in this already far too long post. The lower disparity in rewards between difficulty levels is another positive change. As is the rewards button (could use a vertical scroll bar), being upfront about potential plans, and there no longer being "traps" by ending a higher difficulty run under area 10k.

Yeah, I realized later that day that I had forgot to scroll my spreadsheet to level 30 on the season 4 rewards. So there's a bit less runes this season, but we wanted to keep the season pass the same price, while accounting for the extra levels of rewards we added.

We won't be removing the runes from the level rewards, just shifting them around a bit when we implement the points changes.

Glad Matt is a fun shake-up so far.

With Kat's vacation in August and fitting in the Desert Bus Crusader art, we thought it would be a good time to add the Void as players have requested it and since it offered some time savings with the season art.

I'll chat with Wilson about the vertical scroll bar on the rewards dialog to make it clearer it can scroll.

Cheers!

Hello Erika and everyone

I was wondering if there would be an improvement on the "SPRINT" for "DUNGEONS" and was wondering if there could be a "TALENT" oriented for that, like 1 payment only to let use activate this function on "DUNGEONS" it could double the function of previous talents but for this only since we have 15 runs per week and reaching area 20000 for each takes a long time otherwise.

Thanks for code

Hi Kite-sama,

Nothing planned for extending sprint on dungeons only at this time, but we did recently add more sprint in our talent update. We'll keep the request in mind though.

You're welcome for the code. :)
