Good morning!

Before we begin today, I hope you are safe wherever you are, and that you are in a position to take care of yourselves during this time of change.

I read To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Paolini this weekend. It was an interesting foray into sci-fi. Inspired me to pick up with the Murderbot series and get back to the books the Expanse was based on.

For those of you who are joining us for the first time, I'm Erika, the Live Services Manager for Crusaders of the Lost Idols and Community Manager for Codename Entertainment, and I will do my best to answer your Crusaders questions. This Q&A is so you know where to find one of the team to chat Crusaders weekly.

I will be answering questions live for the first hour and then checking back throughout the week.

The previous Q&A: Number 213!

Community Activity!

We've still got time on the catch-up activity for this week.

It's a good chunk of sheets towards the next reward goal of a 7 day long 400% Gold buff.

We may or may not have a new colouring sheet for you this week, depending on how things shake out.

Updates:

  • There is currently a break in the Dungeons before starting Season 2. You can now choose when to claim all your outstanding rewards, now the season is over. You will have to claim all the rewards at once when you choose to claim them. You can hover the skull on the dialog to see the list of rewards you haven't claimed yet before you hit the Claim button.

  • The recipes for the Sasha's Schoolhouse Scourge Crusaders will be available today, Tuesday, September 29th, 2020 at Noon Pacific Time (UTC -7).

  • The Tier 6 event season starts with Carnival of Sorrows this Thursday, October 1st, 2020. You'll need to have completed the Tier 3 objective on Ghostbeard's Greed, To Infinity and Beyond, in order to complete most of the event.

  • The Tier 6 version of Emo's New Moon will release around Thursday, October 22nd, 2020.

  • The recipes for the Carnival of Sorrows Crusaders will be available Tuesday, October 27th, 2020 at Noon Pacific Time (UTC -7).

  • In case you missed it, we're doing Q&A streams for Crusaders on the CNE Games twitch channel now! The streams are at Thursdays at 10am Pacific Time (UTC-7).

  • We're currently working on getting Season 2 of the Dungeons and the attached new system ready.

  • We are partnering with Desert Bus again this year, and are working on a new Crusader to give to players who donate to their campaign while it's running in November.

  • Note: Start saving your rubies. They'll be useful for a new upcoming feature.

  • Thank you for your answers to the question about what you'd like to see from the Dungeons for season 2 last week!

End of Life in Flash in Browsers

Crusaders will remain available to play through the version on Steam, and through a downloadable launcher on our Codename Games website (coming soon!)

You can currently link your accounts to those platforms, using the in-game Linked Account option. Generate the code in the game you want to keep and paste it into the game on Steam or CNEGames. The Linked Account option is available as soon as you complete the tutorial in the new version of the game.

Hey Erika, first thanks for the weekend buff, really got me further in game, wish it lasted longer!

  1. If someone had 50.000 rubies would you say they are under prepared, or over prepared for the new upcoming new feature?
  2. And if someone had 500.000 Jeweled Chests, would you say they are under or over prepared for the new feature?
  3. Would it be bad to assume to season 2 of dungeons will be sometime after Carnival of Sorrows ends, but before Emos New Moon Begins? Asking for a friend

Hi N00byDoobyDoo,

That's awesome, glad you like the weekend buff.

1 & 2) Very overprepared. :)

3) I can't give an ETA on the update, sorry.

Also, thank you for the break between the dungeons. The last few weeks were quite hectic to get Li'l Reaper and all the 10k achievements, but I managed to do it just in time. I literally got the Sunday Stroll 10k on my last run, after the Crypt was finished! The sprint runs since then are quite stressless and even relaxing so again, much obliged for that. Even if my idols grow only thanks to missions, I don't mind it at all.

That said, when is the Clocktower getting here already? ;)

Hi rjakubec,

Good question. I'll run it by the team.

I'm glad you're enjoying the break period. :)

The Clocktower, aka Season 2, will arrive precisely when it means to.

Hi billyjoe99,

You're welcome for the code.

The Jeweled chests are for Legendary catalysts, so if you've got a stash of those, you're good there.

A few thousand or so rubies on hand would be a good number.

The game loads, but the opening screen is so zoomed in that I can't see/reach the 'start' button so I'm just stuck at the landing page. I'd like to transfer my account to steam, but since I can't access my old game, I cannot even reach the 'link account' option to copy it. Is there a fix for this?

Hi IBCitizen,

Is this Firefox on a Mac or a PC?

We did note that Crusaders will load properly in Chrome on a MacBook, confirmed this morning.

Otherwise, you can put in a ticket and I can get you a link code.

Hey Erika, thanks for the code. I'll have to check out the book, I loved the Eragon series and was not aware Christopher Paolini had written sci-fi. I have one question this week. When Dungeons re-open are they going to be the same general format? 15 runs a week, resetting Thursdays? or is that changing too? It was nice to be able to have the challenge at the end of the dungeon week so we could decide if we wanted to spend a lot of time on the challenge or not depending on how many dungeon runs we had left.

Hi Sylexy,

Yeah, the book only dropped on the 15th of September, but a couple of the BookTubers I watch had interviews with him and reviewed prerelease copies, which is how it hit my radar.

I'm really curious what the next book in the Fractalverse will cover, since I had some unanswered questions.

There will be some tweaks to the Dungeons. I was thinking of moving the dungeon reset day away from Thursdays, and try out a Tuesday or Wednesday reset day. And lowering the runs per week, so it's not as crazy to try and get them all done.

We aren't currently planning on adding another Crusader with an active ability, but it has come up in the past. I'll add another vote for the possibility.

Hi dimitrius5naj,

I think it would be fun to put out more Crusaders like Almquist, though there aren't any in the next few upcoming events.

I would love for the crusaders team to take a look at the talent for increasing the odds of getting short duration missions. I have not been leveling this talent because I actually like getting the longer missions, because they reward more EP per mission and I don't really want to micromanage doing the 10 minute missions all day.

If I have misunderstood how the talent works, then I would suggest changing the text on the talent so that it makes its effect more clear(because it currently reads like a negative effect to me).

Hi JuJuBee2006,

The Impatience Talent does make it so that the EP and Gold missions that are 3 hours in original duration or less do show up more often.

Most players like it since it can give them a better EP/hour rate, or at least makes it easier to cycle through the Crusaders who need EP.

We do also have a bunch of Rare and Epic missions that give up to 8 EP to each Crusader that are 3 hours or less, so that Talent increases the chance that you can get one of those missions to show up.

Hello Erika,

So, for a good while, I’ve been trying to keep your attention at dungeon idol gains, which are less than ideal. I also have a few other ideas that I’d like to share. Of course, right when you asked for suggestions for next season of dungeons, I lacked the time to write down my ideas. My apologies for this late addition.

Let’s get idols gains out of the way first. What I’ve seen in most multiplayer games is that progress is fast for new players, but slower for advanced players. This way, newer players can catch up. Crusaders also seemed to follow this philosophy. Still does, mostly, except for one thing: high-endgame players can gather idols much faster than low-endgame players. This was the case since dungeons were introduced, since high-endgame players could get better results in the same amount of time.

However, the problem was greatly exacerbated when idol gains for sprinting were shot: low-endgame players like me were happy to rake up one percent of current idols on the best maps, while high-endgame players could get full or near-full rewards on almost all maps. For me, it means that since a while, my best idol gains have been from missions. Still, dungeons give me more than FPs.

Just to be clear: I, and I think everyone I’ve spoken with, agree that sprinting gave crazy idols (although I admit I happily accepted them!). Fixing that was the right thing to do. The problem was *how* it was fixed.

If I understood things well, there were several things the fix tried to achieve:

  • No more crazy idol gains from dungeon sprints
  • Less focus on dungeon idols, more focus on dungeon points and dungeon coins
  • Planning for the future: if more sprint talent levels are added, there still shouldn’t be crazy idols gains from sprinting.

Am I missing anything? All of these sound agreeable. However, the fix solved as many problems as it created.

First of all, idol gains from dungeon sprints were greatly reduced. This was good.

On the other hand, dungeon points and dungeon coins remained about as uninteresting as they were before. There isn’t yet much of interest you can buy with coins. As for points… there were barely any interesting rewards for reaching higher dungeon levels. The TM is good of course. I was also hoping to reach the challenge tokens, but I fell several levels short. Other than that, it was mostly buffs and cats. If you’re advanced enough to play Dungeons at all, you probably have enough of both. There were also some mats, but it really wasn’t that much. So, why collect dungeon points?

Moreover, since the map bonuses for points and coins were low (10%), there really wasn’t much point in doing dungeon levels with these bonuses. Even if idol gains from the idol map were shitty, doing the idol map over and over was still the best long-term plan. So here, the fix didn’t really change much.

As for planning for the future… this is where the problems came from. Post-fix, the biggest issue for low-endgame players was to get through the 3500-7000 zone. Between area 3500 and 5500, the increase in idol gains was as poor as during the sprint section, but with far slower progress. This problem continued between area 5500 and 6500: even if gains started crawling out of the pit, they still wouldn’t be out of it yet. Only if players could reach area 7000, pushing deep gave better idol gains than simply sprinting. To put it like this: if scrubbing floors gives you three dollars an hour and writing music gives you ten dollars a day, you best scrub a lot of floors.

Now, the problem for low-endgame players is that reaching area 7000 is hard. They can make it on some maps, but definitely not all. 6000 is fine on most maps. 6500 is well possible on several. But all of that is still well in the pit. So, they’re kinda stuck. FPs give poor gains, because of the DPS cap. Dungeons give poor gains because they can’t reach the juicy levels yet. They’re in a chasm. It’s a ‘not a girl, not yet a woman’ kind of situation.

If the plan is to add more sprint levels and plan dungeon rewards accordingly, I get that. However, the dungeon season has ended without any new talents. There was no sprinting to 5500. You’ve solved a problem that doesn’t yet exist, while players like me felt the downside of that solution every single dungeons run. It’s like a bus that drives people to an empty field, waits for ten minutes while the passengers grit their teeth, then continues to its destination. Why? Because there’s going to be an airport there, some day. And someone decided to update the time tables well in time.

So, suggestions. I think I’ve made all of these before, but I’ll reiterate them.

  1. A different distribution of dungeon idol gains until more sprint levels are added. The goal here is to fill the pit between sprinting and high areas, to get more even (yet increasing) rewards. Suggestions were made by better players than me; I’ll just link this: https://www.reddit.com/r/lostidols/comments/i2w5bh/this_better_shows_the_issues_with_the_old_and_new/.
  2. A new talent that improves normal idol gains. Not bonus idols, not dungeon idols, but the idols you get from purchasing levels. My idea is to link this to dungeon levels: increase idols earned by %% for each dungeon level unlocked. Maybe the first level could cost about 3.7e13 idols (roughly 10x the BIs of an average FP to area 5760), pushing normal idol gains to the e12 region. With maxed talent levels and dungeons level 25 unlocked, normal idol gains could be in the e14-e15 area: very useful for low endgame players, virtually useless to high endgame players. If the highest talent levels are expensive enough (e17?), the last levels could even push normal endgame levels further.

This achieves several things:

  • Each dungeon level is worth it, because each level increases idol gains. This, in turn, increases the value of dungeon points.
  • Pushing deep is more worth it, because on top of dungeon idols/coins/points, it rewards a relevant amount of normal idols.
  • Low endgame players can catch up with high endgame players.

3a. Higher rewards for bonus dungeon coins/points. I suggest 100% instead of 10%.

3b. A talent that increases aforementioned bonus. At max level, the bonus could be 400%.

These make the dungeon maps with bonus dungeon points/coins more interesting. Of course, these points/coins should have enough value as well.

On top on these suggestions, I have a couple of other ideas:

  1. Extra dungeon levels after level 25. Imho, 25 should still be the milestone to aim for. That’s where the big reward is, that’s what the whole thing is building up to. However, those players who manage to reach level 25 relatively early probably want to get something extra out of it. So, my suggestion is to add extra levels past 25, with huge costs. Really, each of those levels would be a milestone in itself. Each level would reward a substantial amount of mats… not 10,000 common mats, but more like 100,000 or even 1,000,000. A big heap of mats that high endgame players are eager to claim.

  2. An alternate map. I believe you mentioned you wanted to replace two maps or so. I took inspiration from Sunday Stroll, kept it at 13 slots, but made the thing more propagation friendly: Tiernan can prop to most squares, similar to APoD. If you want to make it bigger, you could add another spot at the 'a', 'b' or 'c' location.

Best wishes and good luck preparing for season 2!

Hi Cotlathi,

Thank you for taking the time to expand on your desire for an idol rebalance for the Dungeons system.

For your Talent that increases normal Idols from leveling Crusaders, you're wanting to see it give players e12 just from Crusader levels, or e12 once all the Talents that apply to normal Idols have been applied, like time, areas cleared etc? And then the various Idol buffs would apply to this or not?

And that would make going deep appeal, so that you could get the season levels from the dungeon points? Or is this talent bonus somehow tied to clearing areas in the dungeon objectives?

Would the season levels past level 25 play a part in this talent as well? Or those levels would just be for the bonus materials?

I'll note the vote for replacing Sunday Stroll and your suggested change on our list.

Hey Erika,

I was thinking e12 from everything combined. Else it would get rather nuts, I fear. Various idol bonuses would indeed apply, as normally from idols gained from purchasing levels. This new bonus would apply on all objectives (ruby objectives, dungeons, FPs, challenges, etc). However, the new bonus could only be increased by buying more talent levels and gathering enough Dungeon Points to unlock more Dungeon levels.

You like it if players try to get as far as possible on a run, right? Imho, this game has a solid core mechanic if you want to reward that. Levels purchased, areas unlocked, time spent… But it’s been lying in the dust, while bonus idols and percentage-of-current-idols have taken the spotlight. Let’s dust it off, because it’s perfect if going deep is what you want to reward.

For funsies, I did a FP today. It netted me 9,253,634,727,028 idols. If we subtract 9,253,612,143,007 from Bonus Idols, we are left with 22,584,021 idols (22,671,092 if I swap in GL Roboqueen and L Morrigan). Rounding it off: 2e7. This is with a substantial time bonus, since it had been running for almost a day, but no idol bonuses from the Challenge and Dungeon shops. Of course, Dungeon runs will often go to higher areas than a FP, but only by a factor 2 tops. To increase this to e12 with one talent level purchased, you’d need something like an e5 bonus from this new talent.

So for instance, on this last FP, I got this:

2,075 base Idols (518,875 levels, 1 idol per 250 levels)
x 327.75 from Talents
x 6.64 from Time Bonus
x 2 from Completed Objectives
+ 3,701,444,857,203 from Bonus Idols
x 1,25 from Post-Ad Bonus
x 2 from Free Play Bonus
= 9,253,634,727,028 Idols

With the new talent, this could become:

2,075 base Idols (518,875 levels, 1 idol per 250 levels)
x 327.75 from Talents
x 6.64 from Time Bonus
x 100.000 from Dungeon Levels
x 2 from Completed Objectives
x 1,25 from Post-Ad Bonus
= 1,128,934,875,000 Idols

Frankly though, ‘x100.000’ looks monstrous next to the other factors. You could choose to boost other idol talents such as Efficient Crusading, Deep Idol Scavenger and Idols Over Time. In that case, the bonus from this new talent could be smaller. Either way though, I’d aim for an overall e12-ish result with 1 level purchased and 1 Dungeon level unlocked. For instance:

10,375 base Idols (518,875 levels, 1 idol per 50 levels)
x 3,277.5 from Talents
x 66.4 from Time Bonus
x 200 from Dungeon Levels
x 2 from Completed Objectives
x 1,25 from Post-Ad Bonus
= 1,128,934,875,000 Idols

Of course, there are plenty other ways you could handle this. Really, your team is probably a lot better at putting down the best numbers. And while we're on that topic: earlier, I suggested an e13 cost for the first level, but that might be a bit high. Hopefully though, my input is a useful starting point.

And that would make going deep appeal, so that you could get the season levels from the dungeon points? Or is this talent bonus somehow tied to clearing areas in the dungeon objectives?

I’m not entirely sure I get your question, but the formula for this bonus would be something like [base bonus for this talent] x [number of talent levels unlocked] x [number of dungeon levels in the current season unlocked]. So with 1 talent level unlocked and 0 dungeon levels unlocked, the bonus would be 0, or a x1 modifier. With 1 talent level unlocked and 1 dungeon levels unlocked, the bonus would be [base bonus] x 1 x 1. With 9 talent levels and 12 dungeon levels unlocked, the bonus would be [base bonus] x 9 x 12, which equals [base bonus] x 108. With 40 talent levels (for instance) and 25 dungeon levels unlocked, the bonus would be [base bonus] x 1000, which would mean e15 idols.

For reference, my total idols are currently in the e15 range and I could get nowhere near level 25. I also shouldn’t be able to purchase the max level of this talent without some serious saving-up: I’m thinking something of an e17 cost for the final level. That would put me somewhere in the middle for this talent.

The ‘go deep’ effect should be twofold. One, people trying to unlock as many dungeon levels to increase the bonus. Two, people getting more idols on their run if they go deep. Does this answer the question from your quote?

Regarding seasonal levels past 25 counting towards this talent: up to you, really. I’d say yes, but imho it doesn’t really matter: the players that can get past lvl 25 shouldn’t significantly benefit from this talent anymore.

Another wall of text. Sorry for that. I just hope it's not done in vain. If there are any more questions, I'd be happy to clarify.

That does clarify things, thank you for that. :)
