I have kong (and steam) version (I dont want to link them I like having different versions it makes formations and objectives "interesting"). So flash is ending support and I'm really looking forward to the desktop launcher (can I have a third version?) When I click the downloads page, it takes me to a register/login, since I play through kong what do I choose since there is no button that i see for "long players click here". Thank you much.
External link →You have to make a Codename Games account in order to use the launcher.
Then you would have to link your Kongregate progress to the the launcher, if you wish to save it with Flash dying, using the Linked Accounts option from the in-game Options menu.

Will the stand alone version be getting a chat area ant time in the future or do we have to be on steam to access that feature?

The Codename launcher has a chat. You just need to toggle it on from the in-game Options menu, just like on Steam you can toggle the chat on and off.
