Welcome Crusaders!

Before we begin today, I hope you are safe wherever you are, and that you are in a position to take care of yourselves during this time of change.

 

For those of you who are joining us for the first time, I'm Erika, the Live Services Manager for Crusaders of the Lost Idols, and I will do my best to answer your Crusaders questions. This Q&A is so you know where to find one of the team to chat Crusaders weekly.

I will be answering questions live for the first hour and then checking back throughout the week.

We're currently doing a catch-up week and we've gotten some neat submissions so far!

Updates:

  • The Tier 4 11th objectives released last week!

  • We're currently working on Tier 5 Ghostbeard's Greed objectives.

  • Additional 5th slot runes will be released in batches over the season. It's the plan to have them all released by the end of it, and then new Crusaders going forward will debut with their 5th slot rune. The next batch will drop with the Premature Party update.

  • The Tier 6 version of Hermit's Premature Party will launch around Thursday, March 4th, 2021.

  • The recipes for the Merci's Mix-Up Crusaders will be available Tuesday, March 9th, 2021, at Noon Pacific Time.

  • The Tier 6 version of Nate's Candy Conundrum will launch around Thursday, March 25th, 2021.

  • The Tier 6 version of Superhero Spring will launch around Thursday, April 15th, 2021.

Welcome back to the game. :)

Seasons are tied to the dungeon objectives, which are special objectives with larger formations than normal and where DPS and CLK aren't capped at the maximum number cap.

You can do 15 objectives in the Dungeons per week, and you can buy extras if you want/need to to help with your season progress. The seasons have two reward tracks, free and extras if you pay for the season pass this season. As you earn dungeon points, you unlock the rewards on those tracks. The goal is to reach level 25 and get the achievement, but if you miss out on the main rewards, they will be available in the shop related to the dungeon when the season ends.

Runes are another source of Crusader power. Each Crusader has 5 slots for runes, though currently the 5th slot runes are being added in batches.

There's also in-game FAQs for both, and of course, community commentary. :)

It was a bit hard to catch, but there were players with meticulous records and it helped us find the right spot.

Quicker challenges, I think that might be a theme. Noted!

This will make it worth going further on a challenge when tokens only drop 1 per 30 something levels, maybe at that point, let it drop rubies too.

We should not be punished for going far in a challenge, it never made since why you get diminishing returns (fewer tokens) per levels the further out you go.

IT makes you want to bail from challenge early; like at 150 tokens early.

Interesting, having the different currency on the challenges. I'll note it down.

The prices in the challenge token store were balanced around getting the average of 100 tokens a week in the challenge, which is why it tails off after that. But they were also introduced when players had a bit less power. I'll discuss with Justin about looking at the drops.

No, the Arcane Geode shouldn't be increasing the Catalyst cost for unlocking slots.

1) That is probably a stat we can display, so you don't have to reverse engineer it from the Dressing for Success talent.

2) Yeah, the filter for the runes on the mission screen is something I want to add sooner than later. I'll add your vote to the item.

3) It's true that Ctrl+Arrow key isn't used for anything. I will note the request to have it shift 1000 areas on our suggestion list and we'll see what happens. In the meantime, you can use the mousewheel to scroll the minimap quickly, if you're idling on an area.

4) You can already exchange challenge coins for legendary catalysts, but I don't see us doing any other currency exchanges at this time. I'll note down it's been requested though.

Yes, we'll be looking at adding a way to make rune crafting a little speedier, but no ETA at the moment.

Well, you don't need to reset the world to see the selection screen, but I'll note down the request about possibly a tooltip on the challenge dialog to remind a player what the challenge name does.

Also a way to get geodes faster would be great the one a week would take us quite a while especially with the challenges maybe have one geode mission for 3 geodes that's more rare or one for 5 or even one fo 2 would be wonderful

Evil Scheme is only the equivalent of clearing area 5000 on a normal free play objective, which is below the previous maximum number of e1100 DPS, and one can farm some buffs with killing the Things, in addition to taking advantage of Rune power, all the buff cards on offer, and the new Olympian Training talent, along with all the other sources of power.

It's also not something that needs to be completed right away. We may revisit it in the future when we release the Tier 5 11th for Mme. Finkebottom's.

The next batch will be a batch of 30.

The change to the bonus boss Idols formula was to make them a more gradual increase, since I didn't want players instantly jumping idol amounts with the new maximum number. It's still quite a build up with multiple runs with all the Idol buffs active and the free play bonus or event bonus.

Challenge coin drops changed, noted.

I'm happy with the one a week geode drop for now, but I'll keep the request for more in mind.

By the time a player is able to complete the objectives that raise the cap, (a) they've long since left FPs behind as a meaningful source of idols, and (b) the soft cap on bonus idols in FPs means that no matter how high you raise the cap, those aren't ever going to turn into a meaningful source of idols.

There's a narrow window in which someone will get a reasonable amount of value out of the 4th new objective (that just raises the cap), but the new talent just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Is there a plan to change Freeplays in a way that will make buying that talent make sense?

The cap increase will be needed for future objectives.

The new hover is designed to stay up while you're still on the Crusader portrait, or while you're hovering it directly, so you have time to read the tag hovers or click the buttons.

That said, we've had a couple of reports of it not behaving properly on objectives where Crusaders portraits have changes applied to them, so we'll be looking into those situations.

When you say looking at the Statistics screen, are you using the hot key to bring it up, or using the button on Rosette tab?

How We Began: Original 20 only, Worlds Wake map, Taskmasters & Runes disabled. Certain Talents like Phase Skip & Bossing Around probably also worth disabling.

Identity Crisis: Hidden Temple map (replacing Blast From The Past, which is a tad outdated). Healing disabled. Crusaders gain 20% DPS for each tag they share with each adjacent Crusader (additive), but lose 20% Max Health for each non-original Tag they possess (multiplicative, cannot reduce below 1HP regardless)

The above might be a bit nasty for Weeklys, but hopefully you still find something useful in there...

  • Most humans would likely count as modern in some ways, but here are some examples of who I'd say WOULDN'T come along: Siri, Khouri, Reginald, Sasha, Odile, Chiyome, Greyskull, Wendy, Shadow Queen, The Princess, The Buch Whacker, Thalia, Ilsa, Merci and Jason (unless he wears the Special Ops skin) - Imani, Euodia and Shenna also won't come along due to being dualraced.

  • Afterlife Tea (joke on Afternoon Tea) - Only Angels, Demons and Undead crusaders allowed - Sasha's Schoolhouse Scourge campaign

  • Plain and Simple - Only non-Magical, non-Supernatural, non-Royal and non-Superheroes crusaders allowed - Kaine's Dinner of Doom campaign

This specifically covers the missing tags; Flora, Superhero, Alien, Non-binary, Evil and Undead (with Plain and Simple being just for funsies).

The Machine Stops can have both pieces of debris hit the same Crusader, just in case a player only had one Crusader in the formation when it falls.

So, batches by Crusader ID: it does mean waiting until the final batch for the existing Tier 6 Crusaders (and the ones added before that batch releases.)

The Desert Bus Crusaders will get their runes when we do the batch containing their ID.

Regarding the Challenges, if there aren't any plans for sprinting, perhaps you could implement other ways to speed things up?

For example, special Speed buffs or buffs that increase the drop rate that activate after you reach a certain area.

Also, I really liked the Dungeon Points buff from last time. I wasn't able to complete the dungeon but it brought me a few levels closer than I ever could with the Dungeon Bonus alone.

Special buffs for the challenge objectives sounds like fun, or maybe something like adapting those old speed buffs from some early event objectives (like Milk and Cookies) to work on challenges.

Yeah, the dungeon points bonus is a cool mechanic. There's a version of it available in the season pass purchase this time around.

Since you're asking for feedback on challenges, here are a couple that I've brought up previously:

-Uncapping challenges. There's still a natural limitation on challenges since they end in two days, so give us the opportunity to go for whatever we can get. In most cases we're not reaching cap anyway, but it could happen in the future.

-Rework Blast From The Past. Right now it's the only challenge that's perpetually stagnant - we're never getting more T1 crusaders so there's basically nothing to do with it except set and go. Runes may let us go a bit farther but that applies to every challenge, so we're still looking at a challenge that will inevitably be left in the dust. Allowing more crusaders over time as we get new tiers (Maybe allow event crusaders up to current tier -3?) would be a rework that would keep the basic premise but still allow progression over time; otherwise the premise itself may need to be revised.

-New challenges? Maybe one or two. We've got some tags which aren't really used in any of them - nonbinary/no gender tag, plant, undead, superhero.

-Adjusting some formations? I'm pretty sure we have two challenges using the Premature Party formation. Top Line has only eight formation slots and doesn't match any actual formation we use unlike the others.

  • Like spend the whole two days grinding to area 20,000 if a player wanted and because there's no sprint? That would be an exercise in patience for sure.

  • Blast from the Past is definitely on the radar for changes. Current Tier - 3 might be something we can do.

  • Adding more challenges to the rotation is something I want to do. Superhero and flora ones have come up a lot in the suggestions today, so those will likely appear in some form.

  • The Top to Bottom formation is Descent into Darkness with 1 slot removed. It was an experiment in if players have formation skills to build a really powerful 8 slot group, but combined with the limited Crusaders, it does make it even more challenging for that challenge (heh) to compete with the challenges with even more slots available. We can look at revising the formations.

Another question, If I might ask: at about how many idols possessed by an average player do you balance the talents costs? The costs go up so high it would take years of grinding to max them all. That doesn't sound fun at all. It's easy to feel burnt out.

e24 Idols is up there, I think more players are in the e20, e22 range right now, but seasons are back, so that will go up.

Players mentioned on stream before the Tier 7 talent update that they were at the e18 to e20 mark, thanks to the dungeons, so most of the talents added then range from e12 to e30 to max out, giving them goals to work towards, but also providing some power to help with going a bit further in the idol collection.

Olympian Training starts cheap, to give you some room to grow, but caps out at e29 Idols at max level, while Arithmagician Newts costs e27 Idols to max.

It doesn't update when you close and reopen the rune screen at all, or while you're crafting the runes?

Hi Halaberd85,

You're welcome for the code.

The lucky 7s returned on only 2 of the Tier 5 objectives, if you haven't completed them yet. The Tier 6 objectives have normal quest requirements.

We're saving the Tiernan skin for something else, but the skin we did release with the event is pretty fun.

The rosette tab is the tab with the Achievements, Statistics, Challenges and Dungeons buttons. The icon for that tab is a rosette.

EDIT 1: If you are so worried about players sprinting and buying extra runs then make extra runs cost 500 dungeon coins or even 1k. That'd stop those who make sprints to get all rewards in a week.

EDIT 2: Based on above idea of dungeons is messed up since to get rewards needs to do points runs and idols runs to buy new talents and coin runs to buy various things (outside runes and idols buff quite meaningless) and 2.5-3 months doesn't have enough time to do all of those (especially when you keep adding more things to be bought (useless and mostly useless)).

Challenge sprint:

It doesn't make challenge any less challenging if we can sprint few thousand areas, just less boring (especially during dungeons).

The idea is that players strive to complete the seasons to get the rewards, but if you miss a reward you really want, then you can grind to get it with dungeon coins. The season reward tracks also give out some extra dungeon coins, so it's not pure grinding.

We will be revisiting the extra dungeon run cost for future seasons.

It was my impression that if seasons are your main source of Idols, you don't buy the idol buffs during the off season since the gains aren't worth it, even with the buff, but it's neat to hear that some players are buying it in the off season.

We'll be looking at some form of speed for the challenges, but sprint, especially with the previous DPS cap, would have resulted in challenges being under an hour, which is a bit short.
