I've started a free play run using only crusaders from the event, currently at area 2835, yet the achievement counter has been stuck at 652 for a while, even after restarting the game. Anyone else with this issue?

External link →You do have to complete it without adding any other Crusaders at all for the 5000 areas, so you'll want to avoid the level all button unless the formation is full of the event Crusaders.
The achievement will stop counting once you've added a non-event Crusader.
There may also be a bug with it, that Wilson is currently looking into.
