@Garth:

Am I the only one who is not interested in the new set? When I saw the new trailer, it didn´t look like Magic, but like Pokemon - catch them all. The plane of biggest and weirdest monsters of all shapes. And they even put Godzilla in there.
This game is for children now. Where is New Phyrexia? Eldrazi? Innistrad? All the dark and beautiful realms? This is the first time I am not interested in the new set. Anyone feels the same?

One of the coolest things about Magic is that there is something for everyone.

... For example, Mothra. Mothra is all for me. I am the Moth Queen.

I don't want one of those "things for everyone" to be licensed cameos—IMO MTG should be about MTG and inclusion of outside IPs breaks that spell, spoiling the immersion
As soon as I see Godzilla, I'm thinking about the world Tohei created, not MTG

A plane of "biggest and weirdest monsters of all shapes" is definitely MTG being MTG. So is "something for everyone"... Hence why we have so many formats, cards, play styles, ways to express yourself through products, ways to play, etc.

Magic has 25 years of history and a lot of it not thematically cohesive. We don't have 25 years of Innistrad, we also have Amonkhet and Lorwyn and Kamigawa and Unstable etc. I find it interesting that jumping around thematically doesn't break your immersion, but an instance of alternate art does. The Godzilla side of things is completely optional so you can play how you'd like.

P.S. Also, I think it is totally fair to expect complete immersion from a movie or book series, but a fantasy game? I think it is less important. Just my opinion.

look at the architecture of human cities, how does that shown on Mothra card fit in the same world?

Well, she thematically does (giant beasties) but visually doesn't. That is why Godzilla and Mothra are alternate art. :grinning:

A fair difference of opinion
What I will still argue however as a HUGE fan of Godzilla is that the card he takes over is IMO not worthy of Godzilla
IMO (and of course, this is where we get highly subjective), Godzilla in MTG should be powerful enough to be a modern staple, not something that may or may not see play in Standard or Commander
Not only should Godzilla have big stats and what have you (he's titanic in scale), but Spike should say "Oh sh--" when they see him too

Totally understandable opinion!
