@docsquiddy This is also where for me, internal lore and hints of it work quite well in games like Minecraft, because they provide tools for players to forge their own internal models of the world in order to tell stories. Structured narrative can't really work in this space.

@docsquiddy Obviously not 100% necessary to hint at lore, because players are entirely capable of creating stories in the game without any hints of what the world's internal history and rules are, but it can work as a guiding hand or spark for further interpretation. It's a tricky balance.

@docsquiddy In saying all of this, I very much agree with your recent explorations of lore and the pitfalls narrative writers fall into with focusing far too much on it. I just think some games are particularly suited to a style of storytelling that leans heavier into lore.
