@Toadsanime I think absolutely luck is involved, but as many have pointed out, working hard is an aspect of maximizing your luck. I started developing mods and maps for games since I was 8 years old, and consistently doing that from a young age certainly helped improve my luck.

@Toadsanime On the other hand - to be born into a first world country, and to have parents that didn't berate me for pursuing such a career, those are part of luck as well. I very well could have had no access to a PC growing up, and it would have affected getting into the industry

@Toadsanime Ultimately as much as hard work is only part of getting the job, I don't want us to devalue or put down people who work hard either. It does SOMETHING, just it's one piece of the puzzle of getting int othe industry.

@Toadsanime I super relate to this, with myself not going to university/having a degree. I came from making mods and games in my bedroom every day with no formal training. It's hard to feel "normal".

@NegativeLight @Toadsanime Never too late to start - I didn't get into the industry until I was 25. Try doing it as a hobby in your free time for fun and see where it goes. Depending on where you are, you could also of course try part-time studies. Either way, it's not too late :)
