@Daley_Kong Man I've been completely and utterly exhausted lately researching and understanding more about the blockchain, NFTs, crypto, etc just so I have good understanding to fight this disease. I'm tired of it. I really hope we get past this hyper-capitalist wave of thinking.

@Daley_Kong For Minecraft, we have 2 different engines for the same game with very different tech underneath the hood. If we relied only on the engine implementation, we'd be in a lot of trouble. The two engines can often get out of sync, which is where documentation is crucial.

@Daley_Kong In an ideal world the data speaks for itself if the gameplay features are data-driven, but we are not in a place where both engines read the same data. I really think design documentation still has a place, and on larger scale projects it's an effective communication tool.

@Daley_Kong Even more important if you have teams in different part of the world, which is what we have. One in Europe and one in the US. Trying to communicate design frameworks without docs is very difficult.

@Daley_Kong One final note: documentation on design intent and purpose is really important. On a game like Minecraft where you have content that is 10+ years old, it would have been great to see documentation on the intent of some features. For legacy stuff, we don't have that.

@Daley_Kong So for new features it's good to have documentation so future developers can understand _why_ we added something, and what it means for the wider ecosystem of the game.
