New on Java Realms: Running, Riding, Escaping

Five new maps to get your mind racing!

My mama once said that life is like a box of chocolates. When I realized she had stolen this line from the second-highest-grossing film of 1994, Forrest Gump, I concluded that one must make out what life is on your own (unless you resort to plagiarism, Mom). 

Sometimes, life is also about running, or for those with the necessary mounts – riding. Escaping, from demanding houses and meteorological phenomena, life can be a frenzied flight or a casual stroll down the street depending on how you look at it. Nowhere is this more apparent than in our Java Realms content library, which has five new additions as of today. Let’s check them out and see if a life on the run can be fun!

RodRun 2.0

One must crawl before you learn how to walk. Once you master this technique, you’re ready for the next step – running with a rod. Luckily, we just so happen to have the perfect map for the occasion: RodRun 2.0.

My mom once told me not to run with rods, but I’m starting to reconsider some of her advice given previous revelations (and because that would obviously bring this paragraph to a screeching halt). The first version of RodRun was released in 2017, and after three long years, it’s finally back with cool new features, such as new maps, powerups, custom kill effects and hidden easter eggs in the lobby. Oh, the gameplay? You run, you use your rod to throw a fishing hook in your friends' faces. Repeat until your friends are forced to acknowledge your superior rod-running prowess!

Bee Riders

When the Buzzy Bees update was released, there was a segment of the Minecraft community that was disappointed: my mom – who has always said chocolate is better than bees. Shocker, right? 

Bees are cool – but why can’t you ride them? According to a certain treatise on bee physics (the 18th highest-grossing movie of 2007, Bee Movie) there is no way a bee should be able to fly given their big bodies and tiny wings. With that in mind, one would think that putting a Minecraft player on top of a bee should inadvertently lead to some sort of epic physics mishap that could bring on the apocalypse. WRONG! Minecraft players don't weigh anything at all! So ride freely as you race your friends in this physically legit minigame. Be sure to pick a bee with stripes, as I’ve heard that stripes make things go faster.

Rainbow Escape

We’ve had a series of “unfair” maps published in our library, which tasks the player with puzzles that require the player to think outside of the box. Well, this one has an extra addition – a voice-acted story that you can only uncover by completing a series of nail-bitingly hard trials. Who is Rainbowus? Why does he keep underpaying his staff? Are there any workers’ unions in the rainbow dimension? Is this map hard? Find out at least one of these questions by testing your mettle with Rainbow Escape! 

Connoisseurs of these previous entries might also recognize some small references to the creator’s previous maps, so if you want to get a crash course on the unfair maps multiverse lore, this is a good place to start!

Escape the House

Escape the House starts in the outskirts of a luxurious mansion, complete with spacious rooms, a working elevator, and several floors that are all lavishly decorated. It’s a rude house though because once you’ve wiped your shoes on the doormat, it promptly asks you to leave by completing a series of puzzles that will surely test your Minecraft expertise. But I say nayeth, Escape the House! Compared to my crummy one-room apartment, you have everything I need; a veritable library of bookshelves instead of my one Billy in the corner, and more fireplaces than chimneys. That’s how you know you’re living the life, so I’m staying!

Don’t be Last

Lastly, we have one of the greatest blunders in sequencing history on my part – Don’t be Last. Why not be last? Well, because the map says so! Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to question Minecraft map titles? This is actually a pretty simple affair to explain; everyone starts by the beacon and is tasked with creating the same Minecraft item. You then have to gather resources in a survival spawn and hope that your encyclopedic Minecraft crafting knowledge won’t fail you, or that your fellow players won’t cheat by having better cave generation where they go, like fellow content coordinator Matthew “Moesh” Dryden.

STOP AND TAKE A BREATH!

So if you’ve been reading this the same way I’ve been writing it, this might be a good place to step off the treadmill, take a short water break, and launch up one of these new maps (for which the canned text will explain how to here below!)
