Extremely interesting talk by Tesla co-founder @mtarpenning! A lot of what he talks about matches what I saw and experienced during the early days at Spotify, and also some experiences from Mojang & Minecraft development. Definitely some common patterns. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p8LSgt4QAI

Fun that he mentioned my skateboard metaphor, and that it wouldn't work. True if you treat it literally. But if you use it as a metaphor (which it is), then the first Tesla "Mule" was the equivalent of a skateboard - the first thing you can build to get feedback from real users.

A lot of the stuff he said echoes what I saw in the early days at Spotify - very similiar situation and mindset. Competitors who thought we were crazy and what we were doing was impossible. Knocking out an early frankenstein-version early (like the Tesla Mule)....

.... testing on family & friends, focusing on iteration speed and changing everything all the time. Super strong customer focus all the time.

@WardCunningham This seems to happen to a lot of popular products over time. Wonder if it is inevitable, an entropy thing? Or maybe a human nature thing, that most devs tend to prefer adding things over removing things?
