19s I'm excited to have a new episode of
21s balance of power the first episode since
23s the expansion released on October 3rd so
26s we're going to be talking about all
27s things balance uh Michael kick it off
29s with some questions
31s overall how are you feeling about the
32s new gearing system and the expansion uh
35s overall we're pretty happy we like to
37s sort of simplify it approach uh without
40s expertise in umbrell uh and and sort of
42s the cleanness and the foundation it
44s provides where you know your activity uh
47s and the difficulty of it really
48s determine the type of gear that you're
49s getting so we're very happy with that I
52s think you know like all things there's
53s some tuning to be done I think uh you
55s know the gear from story mode
57s Expeditions probably is too good uh
59s whereas the gear Year from uh PVP caches
62s from opr and Arena probably needs a
64s little bit of work so I think you know
66s there's some pros there uh and some cons
68s there uh in terms of uh a second thing
71s we're really liking is the named item
72s upgrading I think this is a a great way
75s to sort of get uh sort of very close to
78s if not bis gear for players it gives
80s players an opportunity to go chase those
82s items uh and the flexibility to change
85s the third perk uh even later if things
87s change or they want to try new builds uh
89s there's been some chap about the cost of
91s it and I you know uh we did increase it
94s after PTR uh you know three chromatic
96s seals is where we do want it uh we think
99s you know this is a very valuable way to
101s get 700 gear so I I do think it needs
104s you know uh some expense so we're
105s generally happy with the level uh I
108s think you know the cost of matrices will
110s go over down over time as materials
112s become a little more abundant and I can
114s see us adding new ways to get chromatic
116s seals over time so I think over time uh
118s we'll probably make it a little bit
120s easier easier to get but uh I think the
121s cost right now makes
123s sense uh a third thing we're definitely
125s liking is artifacts uh I mean I love
128s just how they open up builds I love the
130s build diversity they're creating uh and
133s I I also enjoy sort of the upgrading
135s system with the quest and the final
137s perks so I think there's just a lot of
139s great things coming from from
141s artifacts uh you know a last thing we're
144s thinking a little bit about is sort of
145s the speed of gearing uh is it too fast
148s is it too slow I think you know it's
150s leaning towards you know maybe a little
152s bit faster than the past but overall
154s that's what we wanted right and it's not
156s uh it's not tremendous when we looked at
158s the data this morning only 3.2% of
161s people have sort of full 700 gear sets
163s ready so you know it's that's faster
166s than a pass but it's still very
167s manageable and I think you know we're
169s happy with a little bit of extra speed
171s we want people to be able to get gear
172s and try out different builds so what do
175s you think of the overall state of
177s balance in New World at the moment uh
180s well well I think first of all it's
181s still very much in flux right like it's
183s we have two weeks in so far so uh people
186s are still experimenting people are still
188s putting together builds uh and as new
191s mutations come online new artifacts are
192s going to be unlocked that even change
194s builds further so I think we're still
196s very much in a state of flux uh with
199s that said we've taken a look at some of
200s the data I think from the last two weeks
203s and uh surprisingly not much has changed
205s you know I think people are still
207s building out the gear like we said so
208s it's not really producing dramatic
210s changes yet uh for instance in Arena I'm
213s going to look at my notes here a little
215s bit uh both the win top three win and
218s damag weapons are the same for winds uh
221s life staff blunderbus and ice and fire
223s started tide uh the top three and they
226s were previous to the expansion uh damage
229s is the same thing musket fire staff and
230s bow are the top three I think of those
233s you know nothing is is really drawing
235s our eye maybe blunderbus is something
237s we're going to take a look at but that's
238s a hard one to balance because of it's
240s its bursty
241s nature uh in opr again the top three uh
245s in terms of wind rates and damage has
247s stayed the same so no no changes yet
249s we're seeing overall in the data uh you
251s know in terms of wind rates in opr It's
253s the Great a uh life staff and blunderbus
255s are the top three uh and in damage it's
258s the same three uh musket uh fire staff
260s and bow uh you know I think we've seen
263s this in the past where the damage uh uh
266s top damage weapons don't equal the top
268s wind weapons you know great ax and it
270s ort of control and point ability still
272s are producing more winds than the
273s weapons that are producing a lot of
275s damage uh the one place where we are
278s starting to see a little bit of shift is
280s War uh and I guess that makes sense
282s right like uh War participants are
284s generally are more active players so
285s they're they're quicker to get bis in
288s optimized gear uh here we're seeing two
290s changes uh or Trends in the in the data
294s one we're seeing a void Gauntlet usage
297s and win rates increase uh my guest is
300s you know this is because of lifetaker
302s artifact and sort of the synergies it
304s has with with various ranged weapons so
306s that is one thing we're seeing and we're
308s going to keep an eye on that uh a second
310s thing we're seeing is that great a which
312s has always been very heavily slotted in
314s Wars uh is now the wind rates for it are
317s increasing even more uh our guess is
319s this is you know because of the Abyss
321s artifact and and we'll talk a little bit
323s more about that one uh when we talk
324s specifics of balance um PVE oh perfect
328s uh and PVE thank you uh so what we're
330s seeing in PVE is in that high level
332s mutations we're seeing a bit of strength
334s from both the Rapier uh and the great
337s sore uh nothing yet that is causing us
340s to say hey we need to take a hard look
343s at this and I think you know especially
345s with Rapier you can only generally bring
346s in one because of the way uh it's the
349s bleed build which is very powerful with
351s Rapier and that you know one Rapier is
354s optimal for that type of build uh
356s likewise because of the new resistances
358s and how they affect status effects we're
360s seeing pretty decent diversity still in
362s high level mutations so uh while we're
364s keeping our eye on it no immediate
366s action will be taken on those too and
368s then on a positive side one thing we're
370s seeing is you know one of the things
372s we've been doing with the PVE PVP split
375s is trying to find a way to get ranged
376s weapons more prominent in Expeditions
379s and we're seeing that uh for sure uh
382s happening uh we're seeing good usage and
384s good damage coming out of uh our main
386s three ranged weapon the musket bow and
389s fire staff
390s all right and um well how about the new
392s weapon uh the flail how is that doing uh
395s so flail overall we're generally happy
397s with it I think it feels relatively
400s balanced and it's achieving our goals of
402s sort of providing both an off tank and
404s off heal type weapon so uh we're
406s generally happy with that I think in
409s general it's it's being very much used
410s in Expeditions in fact it's the most
412s used weapon in Expeditions right now
414s which which makes sense it's the new
416s weapon it can support you know a tank
418s build for sure a heel build and we're
420s even seeing some quasi DPS builds coming
422s out with it so we're generally happy
424s with that uh in PvP it's a bit less used
427s uh we're not seeing it used a ton in
429s arenas it's being used a bit in in opr
432s uh but in both of those the win rates
434s for it are very neutral so you know it
435s looks to be pretty balanced there uh so
438s no big changes uh planned I think if
441s anything we're taking a look at it the
443s synergies with the healing side and and
445s I think you know we made some uh Nerfs
447s there based on PTR we might have gone a
449s little too far and might might find a
451s middle ground there but uh not in the
453s immediate future but you know maybe in
456s the monthly or next monthly after
458s that all right um what about um well
461s there any like specific balance issues
463s you are seeing yes uh so the first one
466s that I think you know every everyone
468s that's uh PVP intense is aware of is uh
473s is ank uh and the synergies that ank has
475s with shirking heels so this is a change
478s we actually made in the 10 17 uh uh
481s minor patch so uh if you're playing well
484s I don't know when this will be released
485s but if you're playing after 1017 uh this
488s change will already be live uh so what
491s we did for this one is that uh we
494s reduced uh the bonus from 50% to 25% you
498s get so I think we're going to look at it
500s and see if that's sufficient we think
502s that is the right change uh and and
505s we'll balance this if not you know the
507s more drastic change that we can make
509s next is not count Shing heels as
511s incoming healing uh so that would be a
514s next step if we find that it's still a
515s little
516s unbalanced uh after that there's no
519s actions that have been taken in the 1017
521s build uh a couple things we're keeping
524s our eyes on uh one uh I mentioned above
527s is is the abyss uh it's a pretty strong
529s artifact uh we're taking a look at the
531s bonus heat the bonus damage it gets when
534s uh under 100% Mana that may be something
537s that we adjust uh no immediate plans but
539s we've definitely got our eye on it uh
542s scorpion sting is another one we've got
543s our eye on we we think that some of the
546s increase in blunderbus uh wind rates
549s could be related to this people are
550s using the sting to pull people in uh and
553s then sort of bursting them down with
554s blunder bust so we're going to take a
556s look at that one uh we're considering
558s potentially adjusting you know the
560s amount it pulls in or the reaction type
562s it causes again no immediate action but
565s we're keeping our eye on it uh and then
567s last but not least lifetaker uh like I
570s mentioned uh you know it's definitely
571s having some impacts on on uh you know
574s even War meta now and other things so
576s we're going to keep an eye on that one
577s and it could be uh one we take action on
580s but no immediate plans yet well that's
