27s today by Tony and Joel and we're here to
30s talk about a topic that's really bad to
31s be talking about during lunchtime
33s because I'm already hungry but the
34s cooking trade skill uh we're going to
36s work towards simplifying it we want to
38s walk you through what that means and
39s what our plans are for that um so kind
42s of take a few steps back Tony can you
44s give me a little look into like the
45s history of the cooking trade skill yeah
47s where it's been and where it's going
49s absolutely so uh first off I love
51s cooking in game not real life I mean I'm
54s okay but anyway uh I'm a huge fan of
56s cooking and uh it's one of my favorite
58s trade skills in New World and so when
59s we're taking taking a look at what we
61s wanted to do for the trade skill and and
63s where it came from we have currently in
66s game uh a plethora of options we have
69s all of the split stat Foods we have all
71s the different tiers for uh your
73s Gathering Foods uh we have all the
74s different tiers for your crafting Foods
77s um and there's just honestly just a ton
80s of stuff now after uh we've kind of
82s analyzed and seen players play and
84s understand what players like to use and
86s what they need to do and and what they
87s really go for that's kind of what kicked
89s off this question of like what can we do
92s to simplify this make it a little bit
93s more straightforward without really
94s losing anything out of the game um as
97s yall are more than aware our recipe
100s lists in our crafting stations are only
102s getting longer and longer and longer uh
104s and so we really want to take some time
105s to honestly clean up a little bit of
107s debt and and simplify those things back
109s down so we can continue to add content
111s without performance concerns and
113s anything else as these lists get to be
115s exceptionally long yeah absolutely and
117s cooking is a trade skill that I think
118s has a lot of fantasy alongside it a
120s fantasy of combining all these
121s ingredients you're out there harvesting
122s and buying to make these unique Foods we
124s don't want to lose that alongside this
126s uh we just want to help make the trade
128s skill a little leaner and simplify our
129s inventories a little bit so we've talked
131s about that with the expansion shipping
133s uh one of our goals with some of the
134s loot reduction was to make that
135s Inventory management a little easier for
137s players because playing inventory Sim is
139s not the most engaging part of our game
141s uh how do we want to accomplish that
143s with the cooking simplification yeah so
145s that's a good question ultimately um one
148s we're looking at the menus with crafting
149s we're making sure that there's uh a
151s smaller amount in that so I can visually
153s look at that menu and say okay you know
155s these are the things that I want instead
156s of trying to parse through and figure
158s out what's going on uh two we're just
160s cutting a lot of the food there's a lot
161s of food that just doesn't have as much
162s value um I can go get a piece of food
165s with con or decks and it's far more
167s valuable than a dual Stat one because
169s it's really hard to make a lot of those
170s work easily compared to just having a
173s single stat and choosing what I want
175s there um so ultimately we're pairing a
176s lot of those out which you'll see a lot
178s less in your inventory which I can go
180s back as say a returning player comes
181s they're looking at their inventory what
183s are all these foods which one do I want
184s being able to consolidate a lot of that
186s really helps again uh you mentioned um
189s there's a lot of fantasy of going out
191s and getting those different ingredients
193s so we want to keep some of that I still
194s think there's room to cut but we'll
195s debate some of that later um and that
197s might be in the future but right now
198s it's really consolidating the volume of
200s the food how many items you can craft
202s while still making the trade skill feel
204s viable and valuable um so there's just a
207s lot of dual stat stuff that we're
208s cutting out which ends up being a lot
210s and Tony has got numbers for that later
212s of how much we actually cut from those
213s items as well as the crafting menu which
215s I think is important too absolutely uh
218s somewhere someone is watching this going
220s oh no that Focus strength food really
222s let me achieve my perfect build how am I
224s going to achieve that now uh one note
226s that's important to consider and I don't
228s think we're ready to talk about that
229s with this video but we do have some big
230s magnifi changes coming in season five
233s which will let make the attribute
234s selection across the board getting that
236s perfect build a lot easier too so for
238s those of you worried we've considered
240s all that it's going to be handled so
242s Joel just talked to us about how we're
244s going to be cutting down a lot of food
245s so I have that Focus strength food I
247s just mentioned sitting in my inventory
249s what happens to it yes you don't have to
251s worry about us just taking a bunch of
252s stuff away and this goes for any food
254s that you may have created any physical
256s uh recipes that you may have in your
257s inventory as well basically what uh
259s we've done is we've gone through and if
261s you had a primary focus with secondary
264s strength that is a tier three that's
266s going to get converted over to a tier
268s three Focus food so what whatever the
270s primary stat was for that food it's just
272s going to get converted into the pure
273s version of that food that goes for both
275s the uh food itself that's been crafted
278s as well as um any of the physical
280s recipes that you have to to learn these
282s items uh if you happen to have an item
285s on the uh trade poost and it's for sale
287s when this happens uh the trade poost
289s listing will get canceled it will get
291s sent back to you as the new item and
292s then you can do with it what you see fit
294s so you're not going to lose any of those
296s uh will you lose access to being able to
298s craft uh Focus Dex food yes you will
301s lose you will lose access to being able
303s to craft that that is kind of the whole
305s point of simplifying this stuff down but
307s any of those physical items that you've
308s already made you will have those
310s converted over in your inventory awesome
312s sounds great to me my cutless keys
313s inventory is going to thank you because
315s that is a mess to scroll through right
316s now so I'm looking forward to that yeah
318s it should really help you know we have
319s the uh I think it's 500 unique item
321s limits and storages converting all these
323s things down is going to give people a
324s little bit more headro if they want to
326s have a whole bunch of different food
327s they won't need to have as much uh and
329s this just doesn't this just isn't
331s limited to the split staff food uh tier
334s 2 through 4 Gathering food and I believe
336s tier 2 through four crafting Foods those
339s have been removed as well and if you had
341s a uh tier 2 mining food you will now
344s have a tier five mining food uh the
346s level requirement for consuming tier
348s five uh Gathering and uh trade skill
351s Foods has been reduced from 60 down to
353s 15 so the main goal there was again
356s simplification but two to be completely
358s honest a tier 2 mining food didn't give
360s you a whole lot of an impactful
362s difference uh I think it was uh what was
365s it 500 base luck or something can't
368s remember off the top of my head but
369s either way it wasn't enough uh and being
372s able to consume those higher foods
373s should make a bigger impact as your Lev
374s one I think that'll be great for those
375s leveling players too I do um so one big
378s piece of this change is also some
380s changes to the fishing trade skill um
383s this ties into some shuffling of food
384s we're going to be doing with this update
386s Joel can you talk to me about that a
387s little bit yeah um so for those of you
390s that really enjoy fishing uh legendary
392s fish were excessively common uh almost
396s so that they weren't that valuable um or
399s at least not as valuable as we'd like
400s them considering they're a legendary
401s item um so we are looking at making that
405s or or putting that back into uh cooking
408s in a way that makes them the primary
410s ingredient for the best food or at least
412s most of the best food um as well as
414s making them a little bit more rare so
415s they kind of increase the value of those
418s items so players can go out and seek
419s these things that really want and if
420s you're a fishing uh trade skill gatherer
423s player that really enjoys that you will
425s be able to make a lot more money off of
426s selling these uh legendary fish to other
428s players and for those of you that don't
430s really want to do that there's still the
432s options of some of the other food you
433s still have the brimstone food and you'll
435s still have the expansion food that
437s should help uh fill in those gaps but
439s the fishing food will generally be the
441s best with the exception con food as well
443s won't require that at a high level so
445s you'll have Alternatives if you want to
447s just use kind of the um generic food
450s with con which we consider generic cuz
452s it's very versatile um but if you really
454s want that strength food that Dex food
456s you're going to have to find a fish or
457s fish yourself if you enjoy it uh go get
460s those legendary fish yeah uh can you
462s walk to through like the roll rates a
463s little bit and how we plan to make that
465s change yeah absolutely so with the
467s changes to fishing um basically how it
470s worked uh or Works currently in live uh
472s when you hit a fishing hot spot um you
475s get a absurd amount of luck on top of it
477s and so what that was doing was basically
479s almost every cast uh you would come back
482s with a legendary fish uh what we've done
485s is we have adjusted the roll rates um so
487s getting a legendary fish if you're not
489s at a hot spot uh will be an
491s exceptionally rare SL almost impossible
494s Occurrence at this point so you have to
495s hit your hotpots and then on top of
497s hitting the hot spot you're going to
498s need to have fishing gear a decent pole
501s gear um trophies will help as well uh in
505s order to get a high enough role to get a
507s legendary fish the goal for this is much
509s like what we have for some of our other
511s trade skills if you want to get these
512s more rare materials you have the gear
514s you put in the time and you go out and
515s you get your stuff this way the time
517s that you spend on the trade skill has a
519s return on value in the end um it was
522s always kind of weird to level fishing to
524s 250 and then go get a you know gs100
527s stick and throw it in a hot Squat and
529s get a legendary fish it just there's no
530s payoff for for your actual investment
533s there um so that's kind of the big thing
535s that's going to be happening uh with
536s fishing to help make those legendary
538s fish uh come from people who put in the
540s time that sounds awesome to me and I
542s can't wait to finally wear my nice weird
544s fishing hat Ander run through the world
546s it's going to be great can't wait um so
549s this all exciting stuff so if I'm a new
551s player though coming into the game isn't
553s this we're removing so many recipes
554s won't that make leveling uh cooking
556s harder because we're losing so many
558s first craft bonuses no actually so one
560s of the other big changes that's going to
561s happen from this is you're no longer
564s going to create one meal at a time
565s you're going to create bundles of three
567s so you'll have to have a little bit more
569s on the resource side of things but this
572s really bumps up how much experience you
574s get and so with the increased experience
577s and the First Time Craft bonus what
578s you'll find is like as you go through
580s the profession it is worth just kind of
582s making one of everything to really get
584s those bonuses and kind of push your way
585s through um and it really does help
587s fulfill the fantasy of I'm a chef I want
589s to cook all these different things uh
591s versus one of the things that we had at
593s launch which was I'm going to go make
595s 20,000 basic meals and just level
597s cooking and like we've walked away from
599s that big time so I think the new uh
602s experience curves that have been set up
604s the uh making three items instead of one
607s first craft bonuses all that really help
609s just kind of push people along and allow
611s them to experiment with their with their
613s cooking progression absolutely all right
615s so this has been a nice little Deep dive
617s into cooking simplification I'm super
619s excited about this um what's coming next
622s so what's coming next more trade skills
625s um as we've gone through uh the history
628s of new world with some of our updates we
631s have continually had you know added more
633s recipes added more gear one of the big
635s things for us um especially with with
637s cooking was the brimstone update so with
640s the brimstone update we didn't have
641s level cap increase we didn't have
643s attribute cap increase either and so
646s what this created was this created a
648s kind of a tier that was like tier five
649s plus if you will um and it was this
652s middle ground in between the original
654s game and uh the expansion so going
657s through with cooking for example and
659s shuffling some of these around uh and
661s looking at our other trade skills we're
663s going to be simplifying and kind of
664s moving some things around uh good
666s example a relatable example I can make
668s to this is armoring uh when we launched
672s the game armoring had your uh armor that
675s was uh heavy emphasis on Elemental heavy
678s emphasis on physical and then balanced
681s when we set up the armors for expansion
685s we just did a balance set we're going to
687s be going back we're going to be cleaning
688s those things out don't worry the
689s appearances will still be available in
691s some way or another um but we really
693s want to kind of cut all this down rework
695s the uh XP curves make sure that it's
697s still you know enjoyable to level but we
701s don't need you know 17 different shirts
704s um jewelry is the same thing as you all
706s saw in the expansion uh with Jewel
708s crafting we had a ring we had a necklace
711s and we had an earring where if you look
713s at the uh original version there's I
715s think there's 17 versions of each and so
717s there's just we can do better and so
720s that is what this is a step forward and
722s cleaning that up just to have a a better
724s cleaner experience for the player
726s awesome well I'm excited for all these
728s um I know my inventory will thank you
730s and I cannot wait to open up these
731s crafting menus and being able to see
733s immediately like what I want to craft
735s instead of scrolling scrolling scrolling
737s oh man I scrolled past that time with
738s shter let's go back to that one y ah
740s there it is okay oh now I'm missing an
742s ingredient let's go back to the Trading
743s Post figure out what it is right you
744s know uh I think room glass is another
746s one that is just there's so much stuff
748s for one system so there's a lot so rest
750s assured we're looking at it and it's
752s going to be getting a lot of a lot of
