[2022] [Notice] Investigating Smelting Crate Issue

Hey everyone!

On March 1st we disabled the ability to open Smelting Aptitude Reward Chests as we saw a large number of reports of the chests not providing the correct rewards upon opening. Our game team has thoroughly investigated these reports and here are their findings:

• They have investigated many users from here on the forums reporting incorrect rewards. Our server telemetry shows that items from these reward chests have indeed been received by the players in question, with some instances showing that the items were sold via the Trading Post mere minutes after the chest was opened
• We saw some confusion around the Smelter Gear that comes from these reward chests. This gear is not a guaranteed drop but rather a random low-drop-chance from these chests. We did see the items dropping correctly prior to our disabling the ability to open these chests.

For transparency, these are the rewards you would receive each time you open a chest:

T1 Smelting Chest:

• Guaranteed Obsidian Flux
• Guaranteed Legendary resource, either Cinnabar -OR- Tolvium
• Chance for Azoth vial

T2 Smelting Chest:

• Guaranteed Obsidian Flux
• Guaranteed Legendary resource, either Cinnabar, Tolvium -OR- a mix of both
• Guaranteed Azoth vial

T3 Smelting Chest:

• Guaranteed Obsidian Flux
• Guaranteed Legendary resource, either Cinnabar, Tolvium -OR- a mix of both
• Guaranteed Azoth vial
• Low-Drop-Chance at a piece of Smelting gear

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we investigated this issue. With the release of the patch tonight, all Smelting Crates are able to be opened again.
