[2020] My animals don't stay in pens

Are they just leaving to go eat food? It could be the container in their pen is already reserved by another animal and they are searching outside to find something not reserved.

Depends on if you have food in their pen. If yes, they will stay in there. Otherwise, well... gotta do what you need to survive.
