s hi there and welcome to the fourth and
s final part of the sailing developer blog
s I'm your host gnome and today we'll be
s talking about Lauren integration or how
s saline will fit into the story and
s Landscape of gilinore
s if you're new to the sailing skill be
s sure to check out part 1 navigation
s where we go over what it looks like to
s sail
s part 2 core gameplay which details the
s activities sailing will include in part
s 3 rewards are what you get from training
s the skill but for now let's discuss
s learn integration how the game addressed
s the player's ability to sail what
s changes will be accommodated to meet the
s new skill how will sailing fit in with
s the rest of RuneScape
s the world of gilinore has always had a
s need for ships from transporting Mass
s Goods to discover new places to
s conducting Naval Warfare the sea has
s been an essential part in building the
s world of today as an adventurer you've
s previously brushed against some of these
s aspects while traveling about or
s completing quests but always in tightly
s controlled static environments this
s changes with sailing where you are put
s at the helm and get to Traverse the
s ocean on an adventure of your own making
s to help get you grounded a new Quest
s will be added called maiden voyage where
s Ned's son Rob is looking to follow in
s his Father's Footsteps and tackle the
s high seas but his eyes are set on a
s treasure hunting challenge that might
s land you in a little more trouble than
s expected besides introducing you to the
s skill the quest will jump start your
s sailing Journey with a simple boat to
s take where you please

s now during the navigation blog we
s discussed a bit of what the ocean will
s look like once you floated the first
s ship so let's dive into that a little
s further because some of the vessels
s you'll be sailing will be quite large
s it's important to avoid cluttering up
s our Shores or getting you caught in
s narrow causeways so the ocean will be
s divided into shallow open and deep seas
s small boats will work best in Shallow
s Waters like serum Bay while large and
s colossal ships are better suited for
s open and deep Waters like the cramgen or
s Caribbean Seas you'll be able to access
s the ocean at ports which act as Bridges
s between current land masses and the
s newly traversable oceans
s sailing will bring Newfound life to
s Ports as they'll be where you obtain
s store upgrade and customize your ship
s trademark can't tell goods and pick up
s Port tasks this will inevitably require
s some changes to these areas but the old
s school teams committed to integrating
s them naturally and ensuring the places
s you already know and love Don't Stray
s too far from the current design although
s you may always sail solo you'll also be
s able to put together a crew in a port to
s help you out at Sea which can include
s other players or a mix of new and
s pre-existing NPCs for example perhaps
s you can convince vanica or duradel to
s join you if you're professions of Slayer
s or if you're truly evil you get evil
s Dave to leave his mother's basement or
s if you've completed song of the elves
s Elena might be willing to join you in
s your nautical Adventures
s speaking of quests if you're an
s experienced Adventurer you've been to
s Islands like a patrol through monkey
s Madness and lunar Isle through lunar
s diplomacy that with sailing are located
s on easily accessible Waters to deal with
s these unless there's a mooring Point
s like a dock or port on the quest locked
s Island you won't be able to land there
s places that do have more in points will
s be handled individually like the Pirates
s of mostly harmless chewing you off with
s cannonballs unless you've completed
s cabin fever or elvark herself driving
s you from crandor unless you finish
s dragon slayer similarly you've already
s experienced some sailing-like content
s through bone voyage and Cabin Fever
s which with sailing will be adapted to
s use the new skills mechanics while any
s quest with sailing related content will
s not have additional requirements they
s will give a sailing XP lamp upon
s completion with a minimum level to use
s another existing system to tackle is
s whether your ship's thinking should
s qualify as a player death particularly
s in regards to death costs and hardcore
s Iron Men just because your ship sinks
s doesn't necessarily mean you die too the
s game could rescue you and send you
s safely back to shore this is still an
s active area of discussion that will be
s further investigated if proper
s development proceeds to get a better
s feel for the overall ship mechanics and
s find out what players think is best
s another concern for all irons is whether
s they can join another player's ship and
s therefore bypass certain sailing and
s ship requirements for accessing new
s areas and activities
s similar to play your own houses this
s will not be possible for irons if you
s need help you can instead recruit NPC
s crewmates or allowing your group Byron
s team
s Now with an entire new skill we'll also
s come new stories and characters so let's
s talk about a few groups of special
s interest in the high seas
s in the last Vlog we introduced the
s tortugans the turtle people who live on
s the great conch their secluded Community
s led by their Elders each individual has
s a role to contribute and takes great
s pride in their work
s tortugans paint their shells of their
s life's achievements and craft a spear as
s a rite of passage during adolescence
s dedicating themselves to their creation
s as a lifelong Universal tool of Peace
s war and expression of identity
s the next faction is the barracudas a
s group of thrill-seeking sailors who run
s the Barracuda trials for you to test
s your medal rather than a formal group
s they're a mix of people with a shared
s love for the challenge of sailing
s Dangerous Waters led by their found Mako
s a welcoming but fearsome Master of the
s Seas if you're looking to improve your
s navigational skills you'll find them
s quite open to beginners instilling you
s with their same drive for
s self-improvement
s you may also find the alliance of
s merchants running about at ports the
s home flows incredible wealth and
s opportunity the by exotic resources from
s you sell unique items that can't be
s found elsewhere and offer you pay for
s completion of Port tasks behind the
s curtains however it's quite the
s Cutthroat business life with bribes
s privateers and Shady deals in a reckless
s race to the top
s finally we have the ship Rights
s Association who manage the ports of
s gilinore and provide services to
s seafaring Adventures like retrieving
s your ship from another port or from out
s at Sea to your current Port repairing
s damaged ships recovering capsized
s vessels helping to construct low to
s mid-level facilities and selling
s schematics for you to improve your ship
s now the seas are home to more than just
s factions of humanoids on your adventures
s you may just chance upon a deadly sea
s Legend creatures people or mere forces
s of nature at the heart of many whispered
s Tales these Legends will be encountered
s during sea monster hunts quests or
s simply through exploring the oceans they
s include the Shah High and a knowable
s underwater horror that preys on
s unsuspecting vessels the dark Dame a
s dreaded pirate ship manned by an
s Infamous crew who will inexplicably
s appear and disappear at will and will
s card the Thunderbird the gargantuan
s winged Beast who only appears within the
s most terrible thunderstorms at sea
s [Music]
s foreign
s and with that we're brought to the end
s of the final sailing developer blog if
s you still have questions please see the
s full blog in the description
s to both players and j-mods alike thank
s you for joining me on this adventure old
s school is built and the collaboration of
s player and developer and has been a joy
s to both watch sailing grow from that
s Dynamic and to have the opportunity to
s realize the skill in video form
s in turn I hope you've enjoyed Journey
s alongside me I'll see you shortly for a
s final summary of the sailing skill but
s after then perhaps we'll meet again
s ideally with tiller in hand main sheet
s and the other
