[2022] To the people demanding the Osmumten's Fang to be visually overhauled: It won't happen, and doesn't need to happen. [Rant in defense of the Osmum Fang]

As it currently stands, the Osmumten's Fang, to me at least, looks nice. It's clean, simple, nicely colored, boasts that desert weapon vibe perfectly, and is a very nice take on a stab weapon. It's not a thin and pointy rapier, it's not a spear, nor a dagger, instead it's a curved longsword with a very pointy tip. Yet it's receiving lots of backlash, why? "Because it just looks like a curved adamant weapon!!!" And because of this, much like Masori Armor, it's being demanded by players to receive a visual overhaul.

Christ, where do I begin.

For starters, this isn't supposed to be the big ticket item of the raid. If you were expecting every item to be super flashy, I hate to break it to you, but not all of them's gonna have a floating sun like the Shadow does.

Not only that, but it's not a lazily done model. I'd argue it had more effort put into it than the Ghrazi Rapier, and no one really complains about that, despite it being quite a generic rapier, no? There's not really any other weapon in Oldschool that looks like the Fang. Looking at it being held by playermodels on the wiki page, it frankly stands out a ton, and honestly looks quite imposing, does it not? It looks like a solid lil sword you'd poke things with!! Because it's a stab weapon, and it's basically a souped-up version of the Kris you get from the Contact! quest. It fits the raid almost perfectly?

But to go back to the argument that it looks too much like an adamant longsword. Um... Okay? And? It deviates enough from it, is curved, bigger, has a whole new hilt, handle, guard, all that stuff. And what's wrong with it having adamant longsword vibes? I personally don't immediately think "adamant longsword" when I see it, but even if you do, what's exactly bad about that? Having weapons that give you vibes of ones you've used previously, but now it's bigger and better, is not really a bad thing at all. Imagine if Raids 4 had a curved sword that looked like some Saradomin forged ultima rune scimmy. That'd be f*cking awesome, in my opinion! Nothing wrong about the weapon giving off addy longsword vibes.

Now for a more personal rant about the Fang and Masori Armor... copy and pasted from a comment I made on another post:

I think this and the Masori Armor outrage is some of the dumbest sh*t the community's ever gotten mad about. This is a Keris, it's supposed to be curved. Masori armor is supposed to represent a sun god or some sh*t, but the pushback on that was so massive they had to rework it. I think the Fang looks fine, it really doesn't need changing! I s2g if they change this as well because of this outrage.

Jagex has their own creative agency, they can make sh*t look however they want. As long as it isn't low effort (which this really isn't) there's nothing you should be protesting or causing outrage over. Please stop giving the art devs such a hard time for making items look like the theme of the damn raid, jfc. They don't need the extra work of redesigning and remodeling this thing, at all.

The current culture the community has of harassing the game's artists because an item they proposed doesn't look cool enough to them is extremely dumb. While I am aware that many more people are taking the Fang's side, as opposed to the massive pushback Masori's original design had, I think it's still gross that people are harassing the artists for their original artistic ideas. The design and model clearly had effort put into it, and kept the theme of the raid clearly in mind.

So stop whining about how it looks. The Raid comes out in like 5 days. I doubt they're changing it like they did with Masori. Trust me. There are way bigger fish to fry right now. (Protest Fresh Start Worlds)
