External link →This is the second post I've seen about this, maybe I'll get in touch with the wiki and provide a list of all the NPC's/Pets I popped hats onto this year
Edit (round 2): Looks like the wiki are updating things to show more than just pets. At the time of me editing this, think they have about 30% of the NPCs I popped hats on (sorry Wiki, I shoulda given you a heads up earlier), the list is here
Edit: Think the info is finding it's way to the wiki now in some form, but instead of me being lazy and waiting for it to happen I can put the pets I added hats to in here;
How come some do and sone don’t? Sad to see none of my skilling pets have one :(
That's not a question I'm wholly clued up on. The hats are specific to each pet and need adding by art, so it's not a generic solution (unlike the human hats). I asked for Baron specifically, but the other DT2 pets were a bit harder to add hats to on short notice. For the pets outside of Baron, they were given hats before my time so likely added depending on someones preference but this is a total guess. Maybe next year, I can ask for more to be added if I do it again.
Just an idea for the future - could it be possible to get custom holiday items for pets
EDIT: When I am saying custom, I am actually meaning holiday items like we already get, but for pets only.
Maybe, that's a discussion for Art and whoever takes on the Christmas event next year! Kraken with a snowglobe would be funny, Baron with a cute lil xmas jumper maybe

Explored this with Art, turns out it was way more work than anticipated and with their current workload it wasn't possible for this one. Definitely possible in the future, just needs more prep than me springing it on people like I did this year

If they did, I didn't find them when I went trawling through the codebase so they might have been missed in recent years too - should be easy enough to get them back next year if they did tho

If you don't deserve them, then you don't deserve the hats they would have... consider the attack personal
I actually put that gallery together! I have a folder of all the other NPCs with hats as well, but haven't had the time to sort them all out quite yet. I'll probably end up finishing it off tomorrow afternoon. I have to say the Baron chathead is mega cute.
You are doing the good Lord's work! I'll apologise for finding out how to add the hat to humans and that they mostly just work with no effort - once I got that forbidden knowledge, I got carried away. Just wanted to make things extra Christmassy!

I don't at all mind humans getting in on the festivities! In fact, the more the merrier. Apologies on my end for not getting that page all wrapped up just yet. It's the end of the semester on Friday and I'm a bit preoccupied with finishing up a (coincidentally, wiki-related) project for the course I'm taking! Hopefully today I can find a bit of time to get all the humans added.
Maybe we'll collate some suggestions early doors next year and we can get some player input on new hats!
Nah no worries on the wiki page! I wasn't expecting someone to finish it all in one day and I'd forgotten to even consult the wiki ahead of time to get them a list in advance, so I appreciate someone else picking up my slack in their own time :D Good luck with your course, I bless you with JMod RNG for the course only, not your drops
