Blah blah blah nightmare of ashihama exists

Is there anything you can tell us about the Nightmare of Ashihama fight? I'm not opposed to voting yes based on just this blurb, but you're not giving us much to vote on lol.

Volatile Orb (orange): Gives the Staff a special attack that fires a single spell at the target. This spell requires no runes to use but costs 50% special attack energy. The attack deals up to 65 base damage (which can be increased using damage boosting items) with 50% improved accuracy.

uhh seems a tad strong for a magic ags but we'll see

edit: math says this maxes high 90s in max if tome passes. lets not do this.

Eldritch Orb (green): Gives the Staff a special attack that fires a single spell at the target. This spell requires no runes to use but costs 75% special attack energy. The attack deals up to 50 base damage (which can be increased using damage boosting items) and restores the casters Prayer points by 50% of the damage dealt. This can boost the caster’s Prayer points above their Prayer level to a maximum of 120.

magic sgs :pog:

The Nightmare has a rare chance of dropping the Siren's Tome. This tome will be tradeable and require 75 Magic to equip. It will not degrade. It will have the following stats:

Thoughts on tome also giving pretty hefty (say -10) defense bonuses to all styles including magic, on top of the -5 prayer?

Inquisitor armor blah blah blah

Defense bonuses seem a tad high for 30 def & seems to get rid of obby. Any chance the def requirements could be raised?

Happy to pass the feedback on rewards to the team. The fight specifically we don't want to reveal too much on the mechanics but I'd recommend you tune into future Q&As for discussions about The Nightmare if you can.

Gonna be a big no from me on the staff. Way too high damage, and boost to 120 prayer? Stacked with everything else that adds magic damage bonuses, what would the max be

Hey!

It's capped at 120 prayer points. The spec on average will restore around 12-17 prayer points and costs 75% spec energy. This spec could result in you restoring anywhere between 0 and 34 points depending on gear and luck.

65 max hit and as someone said with the proper boosting items max is 82.. that’s very op

That's not that far away from an AGS right? We can always lower the damage after you guys have had your hands on it during the beta and you still think its too OP

Love the new NPC models. The staff with orbs is a great idea, too, albeit the prayer restore one seems OP.

THANK YOU

Technically it can restore up to 37 on task if my math is right and only that staff and spec passes, but that's kinda splitting hairs. Carrying a potential 5 way switch and using 75% Spec Attack energy to save about 2 p-pot doses seems a bit excessive to me.

I trust you on the maths, thanks for the correction. That must require some badass gear tho.

Since the models are a subject to change, could we get more old-schoolish models for the NPC's? They look good, colorful, but it doesn't really fit OS aesthetic that much. Having a few HD objects in an unchanged OSRS world breaks the immersion for me, that's all.

The NPCs are going in a new environment being built for this content. We are working hard together to create a direction for the update so it all works together, and hopefully won't break your immersion, or be incongruous. That being said, these are WIP images and I will keep your concerns in mind and discuss with the rest of the team. Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to leave feedback!

As it is not a (group) instance and there is no mention of an NPC that collects your loot, is it safe to assume that irons will be able to go in with an inventory of food, suicide, repeat a couple of times and then attempt to kill the boss with a large amount of food on the floor?

Shura will be outside of the boss arena and will charge a fee to reclaim any items when you die inside the boss fight.

Honestly creepy af I love it. Reminds me of the hag from IT 2. That shit gave me chills..

Fun Fact: When Mod Ghost was making the WIP image he actually referenced Mrs. Kersh quite regularly.

Can you set up clan wars/tournament worlds with the staff/books (placeholder models)? That might alleviate a lot of concerns around their strength

Tournament worlds will be set up on Thursday's game update with the rewards and their models as you see on the blog in the chest to allow players to test them out.

Personally I think the armor needs to be level 50 defence with the stats it has, and the book should have lower attack but with 5% damage. The armor as is makes obby almost obsolete except for the obsidian weapon niche, while giving rune/zerk accounts too good of dps tools compared to lower builds. Having 30 defence would probably cause a new breed of pure types, which isn't a bad thing. All in all I like the concept of everything, but I think it needs to be balanced more.

That's why we want to open the beta worlds so you guys can test them out and give us a lot more accurate feedback with regards to the balancing!

That is good, what will be the best way to give feedback once that is out?

"Discuss this future update on our official forums, the community-led 2007Scape Reddit, or the community-led OSRS Discord in the #gameupdate channel."

That's what it says at the bottom of the blog post. People like JagexAcorn will collect that feedback over the 2 weeks and send it to us devs!

Sadly not, the 6 Jads is currently disabled on tournament worlds. But I did ask!

Instead of the same old boring book design for offhand mage for Siren's Tome, why not something more creative? Like how about the Nightmares Head, and you hold it by her white hair. That would be sick!

/u/Mod_West

I had an idea for something similar but as a main hand weapon. Gorgons head or something like that but the connected content design is dead. It’s certainly something I’d be up for making in the future.

As for this update, Mod Ry made the weapons while I made the armours but we’re not in a position to start from scratch with these unfortunately :/

Is the 65 base damage independent of your Magic lvl? If so, that's very different to how KO spec for melee and ranged works. That's easily 80+ max hit with occult which I don't wanna see being possible with only 75 Magic. You hit nowhere near that with either 75 Strength or 75 Ranged.

May I suggest the max hit to be based on your Magic lvl? Could be Magic/2 + 10 for instance, so 50 with 80 Magic and 59 with 99 Magic before damage boosts. This also gives a reason to use stuff like magic potions or even imbued hearts to raise your max hit even further.

I like this a lot actually. Will suggest it to the team tomorrow

I have been working on simplifying my shading, but can have another look seeing as you have raised it again with this model. Also the character is from the sea, and I wanted to create some fish-like features, so chose to emphasize the lips, give her fins and tentacle hair etc. that being said, can have another look seeing as you have mentioned it

Hey west, I’ve tried reaching out to the artists on twitter and asking in the qna posts for about a month now - could we get an update to the sire pet? Inferno and Corp got similar treatments and would really love for the sire pet to be big momma sire waddling behind me instead of the orphan.

I think the issue is that the tentacles shrink down to nothing when made that small :/ we’re quite busy with work atm but I could experiment in the new year to see what it’s like :)

hmm well great job on the armor set, I really love this set. I love dark medieval fantasy like Dark Souls, and its nice I can finally replace Bandos with something that looks super badass! Plus bonus points for the Zamorak symbol since that is my favorite god in the game. Maybe the spikes on the helmet can be slightly taller, for more of a Sauron look.

Perhaps Mod RY can make some tweaks to the Mace to make it look more intimidating, it looks slightly like a flower. Maybe close up the spikes a bit to make it look like Saurons mace.

Finally any info to share on Nercromancy Spellbook redesign, and Boss Slayer Helms redesign?

Thanks :D glad you like the armour, I’ve been meaning to find a way of it getting into game for a while now.

Ry is working on a new animation for the mace as the basic mace animation is rather lacking in weight and power. That will go a long way in making the weapon feel better to use for sure.

The necromancy Spellbook and the slayer helms will likely be a thing next year, but no promises. Me and Ed had always said that the Spellbook redesign would work well alongside a Kourend quest, but they’ve all been quite low level to warrant a bunch of new spells.
