External link →I saw that you were more interested in the sci-fi aspect of the game, so this will probably be an unusual recommendation... but thematically speaking, Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness was fairly influential in the game's narrative envisioning.
This is only a recommendation if you're after the "moral" thematics though. As you might be more interested in the pew pew sci-fi side of things, the recommendation might not be great.
I highly recommend the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson.
Nothing at all like the game, I just can't recommend the series enough. Masterpiece.
I'm more of a Robin Hobb or Joe Abercrombie kind of person, though like you I'm simply mentioning them because they're masterpieces rather than directly related to the themes at hand, unless you're after Grimdark. The moral greys in those series make for fairly compelling reading.
Wheel of Time was a meaty read...
