Hey everyone,

I wanted to end this year with a final community post. (Note: You can find the now unpinned New Horizon Mega-thread here.)

New Horizon released just over a month ago now and it has been AWESOME seeing so many players flood back into the game to try out the Expeditions and Endgame experience they asked for. We've of course also been keeping an eye on tech and community matters and wanted to provide an update from our side:

Balance Matters:

  • We've been watching discussions unfold closely and are thrilled to see so many players experimenting with builds they previously wanted to run but couldn't.
  • The changes to Fortress and Moaning Winds also appear to have been measured well enough to have intended effect of giving players more options, rather than fewer. We fully expected new metas to form (they always do), but we do hope that with all the changes to both mods and end-game format (untimed, no longer 100% DPS focused), these metas will be healthier and less restrictive.
  • We therefore do not plan to significantly affect the balance in the near future. Worldslayer will bring with it new content and new balancing requirements, so you can look forward to those kinds of changes coming to the game when it releases. As mentioned last month, more Worldslayer info will be dropping in Spring 2022.
  • Side note: I commented on a future balancing question regarding mods a few days ago here.

Technical Matters:

  • Stadia missing the Hell's Ranger bundle:
    • We are working on a dedicated Stadia patch to resolve this. This will release as soon as it's ready in the new year.
  • Gamepass Windows Store login issue:
    • Some users may intermittently get stuck logging into the the game on Gamepass Windows Store. The below launch steps appear to help most players affected by this:
      • Xbox app - Sign out.
      • Start the game.
      • Close the sign in button.
      • Sign in on the second sign in request.

Bug Matters:

  • If you encounter any account specific issues, such as getting stuck on an accolade (99%) or lose any mods or resources, our support teams are the only way to fix these issues. They have special tools to help fix accolades and restore items. You can contact them here: sqex.to/support
  • We have observed that the Ruiner LMG Transmog design is not dropping in its intended location – we’re hoping to fix this via a backend update in January.
  • We are still continuing to monitor all discussions in community to identify outstanding issues that are proven to affect many players.
  • We know that there are a few outstanding bugs and niggles, which we do intend to fix in future. None of these, however, appear to require an emergency hotfix.

Wrap Up:

New Horizon was always intended to be the update that completes the base Outriders game and rounds off the patch and improvement work done on it. We therefore feel that Outriders is now in a good enough place that players, both present and future, can spend as much time with it as they choose without being forced out of the game by a timed endgame or unsatisfying loot drops.

If you've enjoyed the New Horizon update or have any thoughts for improvement, please do consider leaving us a review (or a re-review) on your platform of choice, such as Steam. Reviews encourage and help both us and prospective players, but they can also help you: the more successful Outriders is, the more we can do with it and for you in future.

Developing even small patches took an enormous amount of work from our teams. It is fair to say that the New Horizon update might have arrived earlier if we hadn't needed to focus on addressing certain issues through patches earlier. It is therefore similarly true to say that to continue patching the Outriders base game would delay the release of Worldslayer.

We have therefore now shifted our focus fully onto the development of Worldslayer. The release of the expansion will be our next opportunity to fix any outstanding bugs and niggles in the base game (outside of the Stadia issue mentioned above). Please do continue to tag us here on reddit if you come across any so that we can be aware of them and ensure that they're picked up. For the month of January please tag u/RobbieSquareEnix for any matters that you want to make sure we’re aware of. From February onwards I’ll be available again (/u/thearcan).

We are also fully aware of community requests for new features like loadouts, item lock, solo-revives etc. Just as we did with untimed expeditions, Transmog, Legendary Loot and the Tiago rework, we're taking these community requests into consideration, but we can make no guarantees of what will be possible for Worldslayer at this point in time.

Speaking of Worldslayer, I’ve just this week finished assembling the rough script and shot-for-shot outline of our Worldslayer reveal video. The team will spend the time ahead creating the Worldslayer reveal in the spotlight format that you all know and love. It’s been super exciting to pull together all this information and see all the exciting changes that Worldslayer will be bringing laid out in this fashion. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been cooking up!

We would like to round-out this developer update saying a very special thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far - it's not over yet! We wish you Safe and Happy Holidays and a great start to the New Year. We'll be back in Spring 2022 with news of Worldslayer!
