External link →In case anybody stumbles upon this thread looking for the information: it definitely doesn't work as of 1.1.3. I tried it on my main and her animal companion as they stood right next to each other in combat, and neither the AC bonus nor the bonus to attack rolls applied at all.
I reported it already via Alt+B, but since it's a regression I'll namedrop /u/Owlcatstarrok for good measure.
I'll ask the QA guys to check. It was fixed and should work by now.

Confirmed, there are still indeed cases when it doesn't work, it's being worked on for the upcoming patches.
