I completed a full run as a magus on the Lich path. Here are my findings.

I feel that the game has been getting buggier with the recent patches, so I was anxious to dive into the beta hoping for fixes to a lot of the issues I've been experiencing. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

Mods used -

  • Bubblebuffs and Bubbletweaks, updated for 1.4.0d.
  • Toybox, updated, but still needs some work.
  • No film grain and Puzzle Skip. No issues with these mods.

WoTR 1.4.0d BETA -

New Bugs -

  • Lighting / engine bug - some lights in the game turn off, like the chandeliers in Defender's Heart. This seems to lead to other anomalous issues with the game engine.
  • Hit an invisible wall in the Tower of Estrod basement, but it went away after a reload.
  • Escape key sometimes stops working. Can recreate the problem by: Load a game, exit to Main Menu, then Continue and Escape will no longer work.
  • Fog of war on world map not being pushed back reliably.
  • A character in Wild Shape (or any kind of polymorph, including kitsune) will sometimes become invisible (to the player) -- perhaps related to the lighting / engine bug?

Often you can't even select the character. Prevents zoning through doors because the character isn't "there."

Always seems to happen when entering a new area in an existing zone, like entering the Chief's hut in Wintersun.

    Quicksave / Quickload fixes it.

  • Lost Chapel - during the Ember cutscene the camera switches to a crusader further up the path rather than the one at her feet.

  • Kabiri cultists now drop a +2 magical shield and a +2 breastplate, but they're both worth their non-magical values.

  • There are later areas of the game where enemies drop upgraded magical armor, but the value is for the non-magical versions.

  • Sort by Type doesn't work for weapons. Things like daggers, shortbows/longbows, and throwing axes aren't grouped together.

  • Blackwater - You can no longer path to the platform Chief Khara is on; you cannot loot her key if she dies up there, and she doesn't seem to move.

  • Cannot complete Woljif's final quest, Dark Moon Rising. The second dream sequence doesn't execute.

  • Despite researching both of Areelu's drafts, and the research from Pulura, nothing was added to my inventory explaining the secret ending despite the patch notes claiming there should be.

Unfixed Bugs -

  • Leopards still run backwards...
  • Succubus in Tirabade Residence maintains 50% concealment after invisibility drops.
  • Mounted aggro in TBM - enemies ignore the mounted tank in the front and run by them in TBM. Enemies focus mounted tank in RTwP.
  • Aggro in general? Too many enemies ignore Seelah in the front and beeline it for my KC in the back ranks. Why? Less of an issue as the game progresses.
  • Riding animations still broken.
  • Surprise round in TBM will often - but not always - skip someone, usually the KC.
  • "Moonwalking" loot bug.
  • Bookworm's Headband says that it provides "immunity to all compulsion effects." Yet Derakni confusion still works.
  • Saving against a Derakni drone ability does not make you immune to it, like it should.
  • Lost Chapel - Enemies Still have 20% concealment against ranged attacks for no known reason.
  • Entrance to Drezen Citadel still requires half your party to run back downstairs.
  • Casting a spell from the spellbook rollup on the ability bar causes the spellbook rollup to jump to level 0. I never want to cast a cantrip after casting level 4 spell.
  • Wrong character rolls checks on the world map, especially Stealth checks. The game doesn't use those with highest skill.
  • Some magical items randomly lose their equipped bonus such as the Boots of Free Reign, Icy Protector, and bracers of Clear Purpose. There are many more.
  • Entrance to Forgotten Secrets is still bugged.
  • Skeletal Salesman updates his inventory for Personal Protective Equipment in Act 5. But NOT Hunter's Arsenal.
  • Iz - still can't loot the chest in the rubble in the area before Deskari.
  • Decrees often still show the results of the previous decree in the bottom half of the window.
  • Areelu Vorlesh's drafts still show up as two separate decrees.

Probable bugs -

  • +2 Heavy Shield still missing from Market Square
  • Pipefox missing (!)
  • No voice-overs for the NPCs at the start of Act 2 - Queen, Nurah, Loitr, Sosiel, Daeran
  • Wintersun - Ancient Blighted Treant can see through Improved Invis even though they have no way of doing so.
  • Wolf bite attacks provoke an AOO from certain enemies - gibrileths, kalavakus, and gallus at least.
  • No voice-overs for the NPCs at the start of Act 5 - Iomedae, Nocticula, Areelu
  • No voice-over from Areelu in the pocket plane.

Potential fix - alt-tab out and back in?

  • Music randomly cuts out.

  • Daeran provokes an AOO when casting Heal with a metamagic wand despite having the Safe Curing revelation.

Unsure -

  • Single-click no longer moves an item from your Stash to the selling interface, as was introduced in 1.2.0. Works from your inventory to your chest-stash, though.

    Fixed with Toybox

  • Intermittent stuttering / pauses. Seems to be worse in larger zones, or perhaps as the game progresses.

Related to Toybox building up more and more errors?

TL;DR - patch is a mess.

Pour one out for Enhanced Inventory and Combat Relief. They shall be sorely missed. Toybox can be used to as a decent replacement for Combat Relief, especially with the new "fleeing" mechanic.

As for me, I'm going back to 1.3.6 for my next playthrough. I'm so tired of looking through a 100 scrolls to find a Scroll of Restoration.

Useful feedback, thank you. Passed it to the QA department.

I submitted tons of bug reports. On one hand, you're probably right -- Owlcat probably ignores bug reports with mods.

On the other hand, I absolutely do not have the patience to play the game without them. They're too integral to the experience at this point, like Skyrim with SkyUI.

Except for the stuttering, I feel very confident that most of these issues were not caused by mods. The game is held together by the coding equivalent of bubblegum and twine. I'm certainly not going push its limits.

We don't always ignore reports with mods, but their presence makes it harder to figure out what causes the problem, and sometimes makes it impossible to actually launch the save on the test machine.

This is great information. Reporting on owlcat's discord or in a more direct way to owlcat would be most effective

We're looking here as well :)

It will be completely useless info for them because he's running mods. Toybox being installed alone is a massive source of bugs for this game

Not completely. Some of the problems aren't too hard to check on a clean version.

Similar on a 'vanilla' version, there were some pathing issues going through doors in turn-based combat.
Woljif's quest is also stuck on the 2nd sequence for me - PC can move around but nothing fires and there's a 'naked' duplicate stuck in place.

ALT+B it, please.
