[2019] Multiple Storm Brands can no longer 'shotgun' enemies with their overlapping areas of effect.

Shoutout to u/Negitivefrags and u/Mark_GGG. Can you help elaborate on the following hypothetical scenario?

Say I'm a Hierophant with 6 Brands that's fighting 3 enemies close together. Each of the 3 enemies has two storm brands attached to them, and they're all in range for their brands to overlap and hit each other: How many hits of spell damage can we expect the enemies to be affected by when the brands activate?
