Hey folks,

last league I made this post on how to use sextants effectively. I wanted to make one as soon as Metamorph released but then the atlas and sextant rework happened and the details were sparse so I had to test some stuff out. This is the updated sextant info for 3.9.

The spreadsheet contains consolidated info from various sources on reddit, youtube, forums, discord and from some players. Hopefully this will help someone to understand how to run maps for more profit and how to identify good sextants. It has info on what sextant can roll which mods, personal tier list and tips on how to run them.

The spreadsheet itself has 2 sheets. One is the full version with all the sextant rolls divided into their respective sextants(simple, prime or awakened) and a second sheet for condensed version. The full version has too much info that repeats and you have to scroll too much. In the condensed version I only included above average sextant rolls and combined the tiers. I personally prefer the condensed version.

I am still working on how to place sextants in different tiers. Feedback is welcome. Either comment here or on the spreadsheet and I will make changes that are necessary. Please also mention any specific mechanics/interactions I obviously might have missed here.

That is the end of useful information. I am gonna ramble on for a bit about sextant and atlas changes. The community is not talking about this much but atlas farming took a lot of hits this league. A couple of great sextants were removed, sextants are restrictive now(master missions only on prime sextant now, so if you are only using awakened sextant rip you)

The good:

  • Flexibility. You can sort of save up sextants now, but you have to be careful. Saving sextants saves you the headache of buying expensive maps. For example, last league you needed to have a t16 map with nemesis+beyond maps on hand for that one sextant. This league you can just save the watchstone in the watchstone stash or in an area you are not running maps in. And you can roll t14-t16 maps instead of just 1 elder map so you have more chances at getting good maps.

  • I like that using awakened sextants gives a bit better roll on the sextant mod. Although they are still garbage imo.

The bad and the ugly

  • The whole atlas is needlessly complicated as far as I am concerned. It is just complexity for complexity's sake. The whole maps hidden on atlas, map stash clunkiness, the watchstone socketing, all of it. I like the stuff with awakening level and you making all regions t14-t16. I just don't like how we are getting there.

  • no 3 to 1 vendor recipe for sextants which is big poo

  • "area contains monsters that turn when killed" appears on all 3 sextants. What is the difference?

  • rip scarabs and possessed foe.

  • rip sextant that gives maps. Not only was it nerfed to only give 3 maps now, the 3 maps can be of any tier. Previously it was decent because out of 10 rolls there is a decent chance that 1 or 2 will be t16s and the other reds. Now, these possessed monster map drops can roll maps that are not even on your atlas meaning you won't even get a map!

  • small disappointment that vaal sextants cannot be combined. Imagine if we could combine all the 4 vaal sextants with one of them being "items dropped by vaal monsters have 25%chance to be corrupted". that would be good source of divines. I can understand why though.

  • master missions are only rolled by prime sextants.(sry to that one dude who I told that awakened sextants can roll master missions at league start)

Data on 1056 of each tier of sextant:

So, both wiki and poedb have missing info on which sextant can roll which mod. So, I tested it with 1506 of each sextant and recorded how often they appear/probability. I bought 48 unique watchstones at 10c each for a total of 480c and I started rolling with sextants. Total costs were around 35ex. Idea is to roll 5000 of each by league end which would put me at 190ex total investment at current sextant prices.

The method is to simply roll all the 48 sextants, record how many of each sextant mod I got and then reroll. Rerolling all those nemesis mods hurt a bit, not gonna lie.

Notable points:

  • I don't have the data to back it up, but I strongly believe the probability of the unidentified maps have more quant sextant was nerfed considerably.

  • legion is awakened only sextant mod now and is as rare as nemesis and beyond.

  • Nemesis rolled 2x more often compated to gilded scarab sextant(20 nemesis vs 10 gilded). that was quite a nerf to the scarab sextant probability from last league.

Here is the spreadsheet on 1056 rolls of each tier of sextant.

Sorry for the long post. There were lots of changes and I wanted to address them.

edit: removed a point about harbinger sextant and strongbox sextants. Okay, I made a big poo poo with recording awakened sextant rolls. My search term for mysterious barrels was "mysterious" which then included "mysterious harbingers" and same goes for "strongbox quantity one" there my search term was "strongbox" which included the "corrupted strongbox" mod. Ignore those two mods in the spreadsheet. I will scrap that data and start over for the awakened sextants.

I've updated the description for the Sextant modifier which adds packs of monsters that convert when killed to specify the amount of packs that are added. Just to make your life a bit easier, that one is consistent with the other modifiers that adds packs; 6 packs for Simple, 8 packs for Prime, 10 packs for Awakened.

I actually noticed a few days ago myself that there were no Master Missions coming from Awakened Sextants. That's been fixed up internally. It'll be patch noted when it goes live.

Interesting post, thanks for this!
