Buying only skin (not tribe) also unlocks multiplayer on mobile?

I can't see it as I already made my first purshase long time ago. But I want to convince my friends to play this game with me. And I don't know if they need to buy at least one tribe, or it will be enough if you buy just a skin for one of the free tribes.
