s [Applause]
s hello I'm East Park from poly Champion
s I'm Eno funny poly CM Champion as well
s as high stakes polytopia player so we
s are going to do a review of the
s highlights of the Kali polium we'll go
s through some of the weekly qualifier
s tournaments and then we'll also do the
s big Champion
s game so this is a game between Alex 3
s King an anonym and there's a really neat
s moment with a cloak the cloak gets made
s on turn 14 let's see yep right here on
s that green player's Capital we're going
s to see a cloak pop up little did they
s know it is in our yellow players Vision
s right he's going to start preparing for
s it one of the best things you can use
s against cloak are Riders and that's why
s he's going to train those two Riders on
s his big cities the thing is yellow knows
s okay they see the cloak there's really
s only one spot logically for that cloak
s to go to right and that's the monument
s so how to deal with it the green player
s is going to make it as difficult as
s possible for our yellow player to try to
s clear it out they're going to go ahead
s pill up this giant on there uh try to
s make it difficult for any of these
s Riders to reach that tile however this
s is why Riders are so great against they
s have bounc they're able to attack and
s move again they use a road they use the
s road to move in there and then let's see
s the bounce yeah we don't really see the
s bounce but what we do see is this Rider
s changes its angle and the cloak is
s revealed which makes it unable to
s infiltrate this Capital City it was
s otherwise nice yeah cuz once you reveal
s a cloak it can't attack the next turn so
s this is a game this game is The Brainiac
s versus Viking the cat and there's an
s interesting play using spiritualism we
s don't usually see that Tech in these
s games where is that yeah it's really
s interesting you might see spiritualism
s pop up from a ruin but uh right now he
s doesn't even have archery archery is
s common but if you don't have archery how
s are you going to get spiritualism well
s the answer is two ruins one archery one
s spiritualism right back to that whoa so
s he does get it from a ruin but back to
s back ruins oh that's very unusual so
s then he puts it to use yep here on turn
s 14 uh he's got this giant that he needs
s to make uh and he uses spiritualism to
s create that uh forest makes a lumber Hut
s on oh nice which is his catapult forward
s I love makes it really difficult for
s Viking to do anything I love a good
s giant push and then to use your catapult
s to hit because when you push that
s catapult still gets a hit I love it
s absolutely and it's something that you
s know your opponent's never going to see
s coming mhh so this is a quarterfinals
s game between IO and estrea and there's a
s cool night chain at the end right yes
s absolutely one of the you know most
s important things about Knights even if
s they're not getting chains they're
s always threatening your opponent if your
s opponent wants to Clump up a bunch of
s their units so that they can make the
s most use of their tiles the knight's
s just there telling them they can't do it
s the only important thing about that is
s you have to be actually threatening
s something because if your opponent
s starts doing that and your Knights
s aren't there it's not actually helping
s you at all so green has green is
s threatening with their Knight let's see
s and Green's been threatening with their
s Knights the whole game but our yellow
s player thinks that this chain is safe
s that they can finally Clump their units
s because of the world Defender
s Unfortunately they thought wrong we're
s going to see this chain come off uhoh
s with just enough unit you're going to be
s able to pull in that very last Rider B
s go oh wow four five six and it keeps
s going Seven 8 9 10 11 hit in veteran 12
s units were affected by that chain and
s big resignation there makes sense
s amazing wow so this game is from the
s finals of one of the katali qualifier
s tournaments it's between uh players aaon
s who we have with us today and uh OB
s Reese yeah right so tell us about this
s Inon yeah this has been you know very
s interesting map this whole game you
s think every Advantage goes to this green
s player here but they've got some bad
s resources no no good uh there's been a
s lot of stuff going on over in the East
s but all the fireworks on to drag our
s attention over to this West here right
s right where this capital in the giant
s are let's look at the fireworks yeah
s going to look at this turn 13 here what
s goes on and then also the very last turn
s of the game oh wait so he went wait what
s happened with the ruins over there in
s the East oh yeah this is quite nice our
s great play is trying to expand out over
s here into the East part of the map but
s they don't really have a super great
s hold of it because they don't have a ton
s of units that they've trained so our
s green player is able to go ahead and
s pick up a Siege here and use that same
s road that they used for their Warrior to
s move up there to slide their defender on
s the ruin this secures the ruin for the
s defender maybe able to get him a veteran
s swordsman a better hold over here start
s threatening a Siege but at the very
s least it gives the gray player something
s he needs to respond to he needs to be on
s the defensive for a bit which gives a
s green player more time to defend this
s otherwise weak isolated City so the key
s there was using the road for double duty
s both to Siege the the city and to claim
s the ruin absolutely all right what's the
s end
s how does it end there's some drama at
s the end yeah it feels like you know
s they're reaching a kind of equilibrium
s here a few Giants a few archers here uh
s now it's the gray players I think
s mistake here leads to the Game ending as
s it as they train a cloak here they think
s it's safe behind all of those
s archers zo in oh there it is right there
s on the capital they think the green
s player doesn't have enough unit to pick
s it off but they actually had this port
s that they made for a giant for this
s custom house that they dropped a ship
s into giving them access to the capital
s so the port is they buil a port in that
s little Pond and that's what allowed them
s to reach the capital and kill the cloak
s absolutely I love it this is another
s game between OB Reese and IO funny so
s tell us about this IO yeah I think this
s map was really what made this game so
s remarkable I know it sticks out in my
s mind the map is interesting because
s there's this long you know stretch of
s like we call that a river almost between
s the two but then there's this one
s connection with a mountain so you've
s forced to get a Navy but it's this
s really strange strip of shallow water
s it's very cut off from everything it's
s you can't you know cut through with
s knights here really uh none of that
s stuff so you're going to have to you
s know make a bunch of Vats but they're
s cut off because it's really the one tile
s you can make boats which is also you
s know vulnerable to land units and they
s have to worry about so this is another
s finals of a Kali weekly qualifier
s tournament between obes and IO so tell
s us about this I think there's a really
s key moment on turn nine with a catapult
s oh absolutely uh big thing here is and
s this is a tactic you're going to see
s time and time again in all these games
s is the best way to approach these early
s situations with Kali you don't want
s Riders really for combat they take a lot
s of coil archers they're in the forestry
s Tech Branch they help you get Giants and
s they give you these ranged units which
s are great for you know things that have
s Shield it's like Hol so so where's the
s Catapult where's the Catapult yeah obese
s here is coming in with the archers
s creating a lot of pressure on this math
s is necessary here you're going to pick
s up math to get your Giants anyways and
s if you see a Warriors about a Siege why
s don't you just go ahead pick up five
s stars in the face of it pick up a
s catapult oh look obes is able to see he
s can't see
s that catapult cuz it's still in the fog
s mhm that means it's out of range of
s those archers and it's free to just do
s that thing boom un siege that City but
s you were saying it wasn't enough right
s uh oh no it was not enough unfortunately
s catapults are great at dislodging a
s Warrior from a city not so great at
s dislodging a Defender and the city is
s still lost in the end as well as that
s beautiful Park of Fortune bye-bye Park
s of Fortune the important part is that
s I'm going to Siege him with a veteran
s Defender so this is going to be that's
s the third kill for that Defender dang
s the is the first on turn 14 oh that's
s the first okay sorry that's the first
s okay we got to watch that Defender picks
s up one kill can you zoom in on that
s Defender far it's going to kill that
s Archer that's kill number two an he
s keeps putting his units all right next
s to this Defender he doesn't seem to
s think that a Defender has any
s possibility of being an offense how
s wrong he is turn 16 it's rare but it can
s happen moves in closer ooh kill three
s now it has three kills but it isn't
s promoted immediately since it's not in
s danger and it can use that as heal it it
s actually doesn't use that again until
s the very end of the game oh it's right
s here north of this city that was stolen
s unright from our green CL clearing the
s city first with all these Riders walking
s away and then promoting with the
s defender look at that a 20 hit point
s Defender taking City sing that's so
s unusual I love it this play game we have
s a couple of topnotch players asria who's
s going to be our gray player up in the
s north versus megas our green player our
s host down the South that we see right
s here so eastar tell me what's the big
s important play here well one thing I saw
s that was really smart from estrea I
s think it's on turn eight he gets sailing
s and then he places but the smart thing
s is he waits to get an Explorer until he
s gets sailing otherwise that Explorer
s would be blocked by the mountain right
s but because he already has the sailing
s Tech it can move onto the water he gets
s to see the opponent's Capital like
s that's so effective so the rest of the
s game is kind of um a pattern that we're
s seeing from other games is estraya gets
s on the water first gets more Naval units
s it's interesting megas you were saying
s he loves his catapults right but the
s catapults are not enough versus aa's
s Battleship huge disproportionate a
s number of units in the water between the
s two as we get to the end here yeah you
s can just see estraya has more units in
s the water battleships and even Meg's
s catapult in the back are not enough all
s right in this game we've got PQ green
s player versus OB Reese my mortal enemy
s The Brown player over in the West can
s you tell me a little bit about what PQ
s does this turn yeah I saw something
s really interesting on turn 10 it's
s actually a pretty standard move can we
s go there where he gets a giant oh let's
s see okay keep going
s Stars he's making these chops yeah so he
s gets his first giant super unit hello
s and then he places a sawmill and he uses
s the park of Fortune to get a second
s giant this is really smart veteran
s players will do this they know how to
s place their monuments that first Park of
s Fortune to get them a second giant MH
s keeps popping off of all the Giants and
s what happens with these Giants yeah so
s they're slow like look right they're
s slowly advancing West they're making a
s play but the thing is right so obes is
s already on the water mhm you know think
s the Giants are in time follow those
s water un well there's three Giants now
s so they're looking pretty scary but in
s this I think the key is obese is already
s on the water he's got enough cities he's
s making advances well we'll see what
s happens but um yeah cut to the Chase and
s look at oh my gosh right Brown has all
s the nying all the Navy yeah he's got
s that giant Siege on that City that's a
s full health Giant mhm two giants
s although there's only one but then look
s here comes three
s battleships bye-bye giant so even though
s PQ had right the whole four giants
s moving that ob's Navy was really strong
s enough to you know stop those giants
s that was the key this is a Finals game
s from the the last of a weekly uh
s tournaments between Viking the cat and
s Chris kakens Chris starts off our G lime
s green player here with an Explorer which
s actually ends up being quite interesting
s in this game it goes the right direction
s for him and sometimes a good Explorer is
s all you need he's able to pick up Vision
s on his opponent our dark green Viking
s hat here and that's going to instruct
s him to grab a warrior on his Capital
s instead of a workshop right otherwise he
s knows that Viking is going to want to
s step on this ruin and he needs a warrior
s now so that it's in time to kick him off
s steps on the ruin and on Chris's turn
s he's going to kill it and come his next
s turn it's going to give him a fantastic
s result of Veteran Swordsmen immediately
s threatening a Siege so the key there was
s planning ahead that he saw the ruin he
s knew that the opponent's Warrior was
s coming and instead of getting the
s workshop he got a warrior very smart
s planning absolutely there's a later play
s too yeah tell me about this yeah the
s other thing that was interesting in this
s game was the night chain we love a good
s night chain right you can't I don't know
s those are just fun so here right let's
s see you see the KN all the way in the
s back and there's roads right Roads
s connecting up and then using the Archer
s and the warrior to hit that Defender and
s then have a beautiful day just plow
s through those archers those are fun a
s lot of players will assume that their
s two Defenders can withstand anything
s until the Knight shows up Knight and an
s Archer and a warrior but that's
s enough all right this is from the
s monthly finals so all the top 16
s qualifying players from those weekly
s tournaments meet up here this is Group B
s from the first stage round this is Chris
s versus megas and Chris is going to pop
s off here can you tell me more about this
s play yeah so this is really unusual you
s you hardly ever see this right this is
s turn 10 so this city right it goes from
s a level two to a level five and getting
s that giant and then
s look so more like using the Hut using
s the monument using more huts and unsing
s with a giant push like how often do you
s see that from a level two to a level
s five like that's just so fun this is
s from the monthly tournament we have our
s player in green here uh fou versus our
s player in white bloodies and our green
s player is going to do something
s interesting with push order isn't that
s right espar yeah so keep your eye on
s this 10 hit point Warrior that's going
s to Siege right so usually when a unit is
s pushed it gets pushed in the order it
s was coming from so it continues in the
s direction it was coming from if it's a
s newly created unit then it will get
s pushed towards the middle of the map but
s if a unit is attacked it will get pushed
s back it will get pushed in the way it
s was attacked from so where it retaliated
s but this is different mhm normally that
s Warrior goes east onto the city will get
s blocked by this mountain and then
s Ricochet down the clock whe rouette till
s it gets pushed South but because he
s attacked this Warrior uh this veteran
s swordsman rather it follows that North
s Northwest Northeast all those towers are
s blocked and then ends up West instead of
s South this is interesting stuff to keep
s in mind yeah very interesting push order
s you got to keep track of where the units
s are going to get pushed when that giant
s pops them out so this is a semifinal
s game between Astria and Alex 3 king and
s the amazing thing about this game right
s is it goes on so long I don't think I've
s ever seen a poly game last this many
s turns no absolutely not uh place your
s bets in the comments for how long you
s think it goes the first thing I want to
s highlight is uh some of the awareness
s that are lime green player Alex has
s against what our dark green player
s Astria is going to do where this city is
s vulnerable since it's got border roof on
s it to invasions infiltrations by cloaks
s so when the cloaks start coming out
s we're actually going to see that Alex
s picks up forestry so that he can chop
s all those Forest and I repeat that right
s here all the forests are right there
s it's very vulnerable to cloaks that have
s a forest defense bonusy so he's going to
s use this turn first uh make some
s progress in the water in the west and
s then he's going to go ahead and end the
s turn by chopping all these forests right
s because if a cloak attacks daggers will
s preferentially spawn on units with a
s defense bonus so if the opponent has has
s archery then those daggers will spawn on
s those forests and they'll have a defense
s bonus mhm now that there's no defense
s bonus these Knights are a fantastic
s counter and they can chain right through
s all those daggers let's see let's see
s the daggers how long does it
s go turn 57 oh my God turn 57 does not
s resign he allows Alex to capture his
s Capital 2 hours and 40 some minutes in
s on turn 57 wonderful game but exhausting
s dang this is the crem deem the top of
s the top the monthly Grand finals this is
s the first game in a best of three series
s between our pink player obes Reese and
s our green player Alex Viking who you've
s been seeing their replays throughout
s this video and our pink player makes a
s really interesting non-traditional
s decision here what can you tell me about
s that E Yeah so pink decides on turn 11
s to invest in a giant Battleship to stop
s the opponent from getting that Village
s and they move onto the ruin so it costs
s a lot to upgrade that Defender to a
s battleship but look it pays off they
s stop them from getting the village they
s get the ruin and the ruin gives them 10
s Stars so to me that was a really again
s non-traditional but a choice that seemed
s to pay off high risk and he got the
s reward it paid off for well done okay so
s this is the second game of the finals
s between Alex 3 King and obese and
s there's some couple key moments that are
s really fun really kind of crazy right
s absolutely insane one could even say got
s this really tough map situation for obes
s he's down a lot of cities he's got four
s it doesn't feel like he has a lot of
s area to move or improve that but whereas
s our yellow player Alex he's going to
s have six cities soon to be seven he's
s trying to make something happen with the
s giant here but it doesn't really look
s like it's going to end up with a Siege
s so he decides that he doesn't even need
s to Siege we skip you for a few turns and
s we see he's just stepping on this ruin
s here just walsing all the way through
s those City borders all by himself the WT
s doesn't end just because he grabs the
s ruin with that mountain Vision he sees a
s village so he ski through a turn a few
s turns later and the giant is just not
s attacking him at all he's just capturing
s another city over here and that's not
s even the end of it is it he SP yeah so
s not only does he decide to use his giant
s to explore and capture Villages instead
s of attacking he does this other thing
s where he makes a cloak and he uses the
s cloak to explore so the one property of
s a cloak right is it has that sneak
s ability so it can move through forests
s so the cloak can move through forests
s Forest do not act as a terminal tile so
s the cloak just you know strolls through
s the forest looks for um other villages
s we can move ahead right he just keeps
s going until he captures this city over
s here in the fog yeah uh turns into this
s thing where he has catapult on this city
s that he can't see to just take it out
s and then end up sieging him with this
s cloak which causes our yellow player to
s resign yeah really unusual stuff going
s on that was great all right this is the
s very final game of the katali mfly
s series we have Alex and green versus
s obese Reese up there in the maroon the
s red the series is all tied one to one
s this is Winner Takes all game right here
s it's for all the marbles it's for
s everything all the marbles here we go
s and the thing is uh we've seen Alex has
s made a critical blender we see a kali's
s tech tree they start off with strategy
s they're right next to diplomacy the
s cloaks are always up FR and he's on this
s city techa where he's picked up border
s gr right here this one of his rer okay
s and it is in range of this cloak that
s obes re when that cloak comes out it's
s got so many different tiles they can pop
s up on and it's a high level city it's
s going to spawn so many daggers Alex has
s to do something about it but instead he
s allows the cloak to come through and
s obes is going to be chaining these
s cloaks just constantly taking all that
s income sapping it toally from that City
s uh which is going to help him out in
s this game immensely those cloaks are a
s menace playing your cats games you got
s to know that stuff any other key moments
s in this game just more daggers coming
s out mhm yeah just more and more daggers
s and if you skip over to the end here we
s see you know the knights come out they
s try to do something but he's got archery
s too another very common cat's Tech and
s it's going to give them this defense
s bonus because Alex doesn't have hunting
s doesn't have forestry he can't chop like
s he did in his game against Astria which
s makes these cloaks too difficult to deal
s with uh he's going to start losing out
s over here in the East probably facing a
s lot of pressure from his clock and the
s cloaks they just become too much for him
s he can't deal with all this he's going
s to end the game here at turn 21 very
s dign result congratulations to both
s players of course and special shout out
s to obes ree for making it all the way
s winning Grand finals and becoming a
s polium champion yeah congratulations to
s obes Reese well
