I've been considering giving defenders the abilty to swap positions with other units. This would actually fit their role, as a unit that come to the rescue of other units and protect them.

This ability would be handy in cases where an injured unit that needs to be pulled back from the front lines. Without having to disband said unit or alter your formation to cover them.

After the "path of the ocean" update, defenders were made to stand out from swordsmen, by nerfing swordmen so the don't posses defence buff when defending cities. I don't think this is the best solution as it makes it much harder to counter getting surrounded, a job that was previously well handled by swordsmen.

I think defenders could be made to stand out from swordsmen and be a more unique troop by giving them this simple new ability instead. And I believe this little this new addition will open up new dynamics and strategies to the game.

We thought about this, but didn't like how it'd lead to "movement chains" where you could use Defenders to rapidly move units.

....which wouldn't make them Defenders anymore
