Similar there's no map size options at all... Why do you need to create a multiplayer game in order to customize it?"

The first game is sort of a "tutorial" to get you familiar with things. After you finish it, it should unlock the other modes.

Make sure your internet connection is stable.
Also try updating Steam, if necessary.
If those don't work, try validating files.
