I've found that running impacts on Goyo eliminates the need for a Kapkan strat with him.

Not necessarily. While playing Smoke does allow you to be a bit more versatile in your movements, well placed Goyo shields and sight lines on those shields does allow a Goyo player to move around a bit. It's all about creativity and thinking outside the box! You could put a Vulkan shield near a choke point for attackers and blow a small hole above or below (depending on what floor you're defending on) and blow the shield when attackers begin to push.
