In the current build of the game, shotgun spread feels unrealistically inaccurate. It's not quite CoD levels where shot turns into confetti after about 10 feet, but the spread in-game is very wide compared to real-life combat shotgun performance with buckshot.
While movies and TV make you think that shotguns with buckshot are used because they're less accurate and give you better chances to hit, this isn't true. Shotguns are used for their stopping power. At about 10 yards away, shotgun spread is very tight, and at 30 yards you'd probably have a spread the size of a man's torso or smaller. Accurate fire is most definitely important with shotguns in real life, but the shotguns in RoN still have a lot of that very gamey feel of blanketing a room with shot.
With the realistic gameplay feel of RoN, I'd love to see shotguns move towards a more believable level of accuracy that would increase the consistency of performance, the effective range, and the level of skill required to use them. I think that even if they were realistically accurate, they'd still be well-balanced compared to rifles due to their reduced magazine size and ammo carried, reduced penetration, far worse ability for followup shots due to recoil and/or fire rate, and presumably still worse performance at the longer ranges possible in-game.
I won't comment on adding slugs to the game as I'm sure different ammo loads are already under consideration.
